when a letter arrives, and instead of a proper post office stamp it has a name called "UKMAIL - express parcels&mail".....does that mean its one of those private alternatives to Royal Mail:confused:
Just wondering as ive had 2 letters today from Government sources and both had this on them instead of a stamp....does this mean even our own government is no longer supporting/using RM?:mad:

UKMail is a private 'mail' firm - we use them at work :) It's a lot easier than using a franking machine as we simply throw the envelopes into a box and they get collected. The current run of RM strikes is turning many businesses away from them :( :( Old fashioned trade unions who can't see past their own noses :(

Seeing that they're actively trying to close down local post offices the fact that the Government uses other firms should come as no surprise. So much of the Post Office's official business has been hived off over the years - pensions, TV licences etc - it's amazing they can still function at all.

I would get in touch with the press about this as a good story to highlight yet more hypocracy in the way this Government runs this country

It will still have been delivered by your Royal Mail Postie though Sam, through something called downstream access.
Opening the mail to competition just meant that competitors could cream off the profitable business, unlike Royal Maiu they don't have to deliver to every address in the UK, so they can pay a small amount of what they get to throw things over to be delivered to rural areas or anything thats not a city centre
