Just wondering if anyone can shed any light - noticed yesterday that my dog, aged 5, seemed to be licking more than usual, and looked like he had a couple of spots on one testicle, looking a bit 'rashy' - then today all the skin on it has gone all sort of crusty, with bits falling off (sounds awful, I know), so, has anyone had this on their dog before? If it's no better tomorrow I will take him to the vet.

It may be a type of wet excema esp if he has been licking it. It is usually quite smelly, goes red and rashy then crusts. I would take him to the vets to be on the safe side though

sounds like excema to me too - definitely take him to the vets to get it checked out though
Hi! Thanks, yes that could be it, will get it checked out, at least I've got some idea! He has actually got a bit of a pink rash under his nose at the moment, so could be related to that - does have allergy problems, but I've never noticed anything on his testicle before!

I've had a similar problem (or actually my dog has:D) The vet thought he had scraped his scrotum and an infection had set in. A course of antibiotics sorted it :)
Is your dog used at stud? If so it took mine a couple of months for his sperm to return to normal, they were all dead or deformed due to the heat of the infection.
No, he's never been used at stud, it just seems to have flared up from nowhere. I've still got some Quistel lotion spray which I've used on him before when he's had rashes/hair loss in other places, that worked really well, so am going to put some of that on for the time being.

This is how my dogs always got at home in Sweden if I ever forgot and told them "sit" in the winter -in other words the cold burnt them. Could he have sat in something?
No, as far as I know he hasn't sat in anything cold - I'm just presuming now that it's to do with his allergy problems, as at the moment he has got a couple of raw looking patches under his nose for which I've got antibiotic cream, so it's funny that's come at the same time. Anyway, the quistel has already made it look a lot better, all the crusty bits have completely disappeared, it just looks a bit red now, so I'll carry on with that, and I'll also put the antibiotic cream on twice a day - so hopefully that will sort it!
