I had some great news today that I just had to share. Kwame has tested clear of this dreaded disease which has bugged the breed for years. They have now found a test to try and reduce the amount of Basenjis with this disease by finding out who is a clear, carrier or affected dog, this is a major break through for the breed as we have been blundering along in the dark until now. For those that are not familiar with Fanconi you can take a look at it on the website below.

Fabulous.  wish we could get DNA tests for the problems, thankfully of low incidence, in our breed, it would make breeding so much less stressful and give one options one is afraid to take now.

I know what you mean Barbara about the stress. Hopefully it won't be too long until they actually find the precise genetic cause of Fanconi, but it is a good start all the same.

Brilliant news :D :D

Bedlington Terriers have definately benefitted from finding the Genetic Marker For CT and tho it's not the whole story, it has made breeding much less of a lottery, with tested stock we can now breed 'clear' pups more easily :)
