Has anybody got one of these :)

If so wanted to know about any relevant health checks and what they are like in general as a pet.

I am doing some research for my sister who is thinking about getting one as she hasn't done any research so trying to educate her ;)

Can't see any mention on the breed club website.  It's a good website though and mentions a couple of events later this month.

Yes have already seen this site !

The breeder looks ok as one of her bitches (not sure if she is the bitch in whelp) has done very well at Crufts including BOB 2004/5/7.

A friend had one some years ago, a sweet little thing but unfortunately she had a liver shunt.  Now I'm not sure if this is a breed problem, but it might be worth asking?

I used to have a neighbour who had one, I'd never heard of them before this :-P she appeared to be a very hardy dog, lovely natured, very friendly and wonderful with her daughter they bonded very quickly. I think they are wonderful little dogs.  The only problem she ever had with hers was that she was a mad cushion destroyer. :-D as a pup, but we all know how to handle things like that. ;-)

I highly recommend them for temperament, lovely happy dogs, I think she still has it, must be getting on for 11 years now.

I walk one daily. He is a happy character and shows no signs of aggression with any other dogs, however his one small misdemeanor is he can't be let off his lead as if he gets on a scent he is off. I don't know if this is a general trait of the breed or just him but his little nose goes down his tail up and he follows the line, oblivious to whistles, calls etc.
His owners have 3 young children one has severe autism and he is briliant with them.

Taken from :

There is apparently only one completed health survey of Basset Fauve de Bretagnes[1], a 2004 UK Kennel Club survey with a small sample size[2]. The French Basset Fauve de Bretagne kennel club, Club du Fauve de Bretagne (http://fauvedebretagne.free.fr/ - in French), is currently (as of July 15, 2007) conducting a health survey, but the questionnaire asks owners about all of their dogs collectively (rather than each individual dog) and does not ask about longevity.

Lovely looking dogs :)

Only met one and it had luxating patellas (honestly I'm not obsessed with luxating patellas :D ). Don't know if that's a breed problem tho. Nice little dog.

Lucy,

If you get a BFdeB before me I will have to come & confiscate your cats...................

I love BFdeB, I think their expressions are so sweet but they are like hen's teeth, the pups are always pre-booked. They do have GREAT wanderlust though, in France they are very much a working hound still, not for the impatient!    The club has great breeding ethics, I wish my club would take some of them on board.

Edited to add: I've known of an Irish Red & White with slipping patellas and a Ridgeback too and my mum's moggy cats has them too!    All unlikely breeds/animals!

Edited again!  Just saw it's for your sister!  Thought you were changing colours from darker brown to reddy brown!
