You all remember that Lydia was really bad at the start of this year with screaming out, collapsing and her legs not working properly?  She's been doing really well since until a few days ago.  One weird thing that seems to be coinciding with both events is that she's in season!

She's not had any of the screaming but she keeps arching her back as though she has slight pain.  Her back left leg on Thursday night when she was stood up started swinging for a few seconds.  Now yesterday and a lot today she's had a few episodes where she's wobbling on the back end and Friday night and last night fell over but got straight back up again.

Does anyone have any ideas?  She is nearly 14.

Period pains  ;( Actually, not quite, but if it's only when she is in season then I would think it has to be hormonal. Could she have an infection, or a swelling, that is causing her pain? Could it be when the eggs are being released? I think that you would need a specialist to sort it out and find out exactly what it is.

Sounds like spondylolysis to me. As the bones fuse the dogs are in pain, once they settle again the can go for long periods with no apparent pain.  I think the fact she is in season is just coincidental :-)

Yeah, I actually suffer from cervical spondylosis myself.  Luckily she's not as bad this time round.  Will start giving her pain killers again and hope that she continues not being too bad with it.
