Just wondering what the maximum spacing should be on mesh for budgies/cockatiels/kakarikis.

I was speaking to my friend the other day, she's moving in with two bunnies soon and I'm shamelessly using it as an excuse to build an aviary - I had planned to get a decent flock of zebra and bengalese finches, but apparently her dad has offered me their birds if I'm interested.

That puts paid to the finches, and I was going to turn them down - but for their sake I won't.  Their cages are pretty small, they don't have much to do in there and as far as I know they aren't let out (and my friend's mum smokes, not good for them) so I want to offer them a huge new home (the aviary will be about 12ft x 15ft and a little bigger eventually).  I think there are two kakarikis and two budgies, and friend has been offered a cockatiel by someone else.  Possibly another budgie or two as well.

But I know zip all about these birds, finches and quails are my area of ~expertise :D  So any other advice would be welcome...

Thanks stann :) That would be very useful!  I've spoken to my friend again to check what they are; it's two kakarikis, three cockatiels and three budgies.

And thanks Daisy for the link, that will come in handy.  I've had an aviary before, but as I said only with finches and quails - and it was brought as panels.  This new one will have to be built from scratch as it's fitting into a gap in the garden.
