Ok the story:

You may (or may not) know that my OH works with autistic adults. Well one of the girls who works there said to my OH - whats your date of birth. He told her and then she turned to one of the residents and said what day was that and what song was at no 1. He said Tuesday and Olivia Newton John and John Travolta - your the one that I want!

Weird!!!

she works there???
For remebering something like that I would have exoected her to be a resident :)
Weird. She obviously should be on master mind LOL
Lea :)

Duh, soprry I just saw one of the girls that works there!!!!!!!
Now from the little knowledge of what I know about some autistic people thast doesnt surprise me at all :)
In my mind it is impossible, but in my friends kids mind it is totally doable (not that but mathamatic equations)
they are totally underated for havning a name attatched to them but very knowledgeable :):)

It's a strange phenomena isn't it, but actually quite common in Autistic people - still amazing though, bit like the calculations a lot of them can do off the top of their head.

We needed to check if he was right or not just to satisfy our curiosity. Its a whole new thing to me (autism) - I only really know about it through what Ive typed at the hospital (Im a medical secretary) and what my OH has told me through his job!

Is there not a theory (possibly proven but not sure) that autistics can be verging on genius?

my nephew has a form of autism, and he can  walk up the street and add all the car number plates together as you are at walking pace and give you the total in the street,
he was sitting in his class at school and they gave them a maths paper with 20 questions on it, the teacher handed the other 12 pupils their papers and my nephew said what do i do now, she said your maths questions, oooohhhh i finished them and handed her the paper and they where all done and correct,
you can give him any number and say add such and such take away such and such what is the answer and it is tripping off his tounge before you can even hit the = sign on the calculator
carolann
oh and my brother had to stop him doing his 14 year old sisters maths homework,
and when my niece started learning french, my nephew picked up the french language quicker than she did and is now very fluent at 12

I find it fascinating, I used to work with autistic children and one of them used to do jigsaws quickly (adult 1000+ pieces) but never with the pictures showing the picture was always upside down.  Never failed to amaze me.

my nephew is autistic but doesn't speak so communication is a nightmare, he can sign the basics but gets very frustrated and screams. He doesn't like change even his clothes have to be the same colour and washed in the same washing powder. When he gets something new they have to hang it in his room for weeks so he gets used of it.                   I'm full of admiration for parents and carers of these children.  I don't think I would cope so well.

I'll echo the admiration for parents and carers as I know how difficult it can be and often is.
