Topic Other Boards / Foo / Removing varnish from glass

My husband stained the patio doors at the weekend. I've just cleaned them and there is alot of  varnish on the glass. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this off without scratching the glass? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Ive used the stainless steel scrubby things (the ones that don't scratch) to do it before

Would white spirits dabbed on a cloth then rubbed over the glass do it?  I stained a wooden surround on a mirror before and then used this method to clean up the mirror.

Scrape it of with the edge of a stanley knife blade BUT be carefull, I can tell you by many years of A&E expierience you don't want to spend the next four hours in an emergency department!!!!:eek:

I've done similar today when oiling my new worktops.  I've dripped oil down the front of the new unit doors!!!

As Merlot says scrape it off with a blade, but leave it for a week or two to really harden first...and be careful :)

Sometimes hot vinegar helps.
