I have a EBT, is there a raw bone she could have that would be tough enough for her powerful jaws. She has a Nylabone that she chews now & again, but I'd love her to have a raw bone, but I'm worried that she'd just crack it open or splinter it. Thanks
I have 3 malamutes and they get massive beef bones (raw obviously) from the butcher for recreational use ...if they DO manage to chew some off (which Delly often does) then it is fine. They have lovely white teeth as well ;) :D
My Rottie X can reduce a beef knuckle to mere crumbs in record time but he seems to 'shave' bits off it and I've never seen it break or splinter as such...he just grinds and grinds at it with his teeth. He has no concept of bones for recreational purposes...if it's edible, he'll find a way to eat it  And like Mel's Mals, nice clean teeth :)
Careful of the marrow if your dog is not used to it. It can have a laxative effect ;)
Second that.. have a chat with your Butcher (mine saves and freezes for me anything he thinks I'd like the look of :) ) Large Knuckles are probably best to start with if you just want a recreational bone. The smell can be an aquired taste but it does fade (or do I just get used to it? :D)
You want the knee end not the hip joint (knuckle) end. The end that goes in the hip scoket (knuckle0 can be chewed to bits, but the knee end withstands a lot of gnawing without bits breaking off.
If you butcher brings out the femur whole just ask him to cut the hip end off, and throw it out. Most often they are already sawn in half so give the ball end a miss.
