Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / chicken quarters
- By ChinaBlue [gb] Date 24.08.07 18:47 UTC
I was brave enough to give the dogs a chicken quarter today. Boy they thought that was yummy. My big concern is that they didn't seem to take as long as I would have liked them to have done to eat it  A few crunches and it was gone. Does anyone else feed them and do your dogs do the same? Any problems??

Hi Miss Worryguts :D :D

I feed Harley chicken quarters and he has a couple of crunches and then swallows them :) Gone in no time :) I think it is probably how most dogs deal with them :)

depending on the size of your dog I wooldn't worry. Mine have chicken wings, I tend to bash 'em up a bit for the younger ones, but they crunch them down like there's no tomorrow.....sometimes if they swallow them too quickly they will regurgitate and then eat them again - gross I know but not harmful.

I do the same as dearlady bash em for the pups just so they dont choke on a whole one :D nothing worse than watching a puppy wretch with a wing tip hanging out its mouth while its swallowed the other part :D

Don't worry, I'm sure they will be fine, for some reason they don't seem to chomp on them for as long as we expect them to
I worried with the first whole chicken wing, then half a chicken and still worry with the legs - but they seem to cope quite well with them :)

Little miss pathetic has to have chicken pieces cut up for her  If you try to feed her them whole, she walks around with it in her mouth whining and then spits it in your lap  Honestly, I could understand if she was a tiny breed but she's a flippin' Newfoundland

No such problems with the walking waste disposal unit.  He crunches a whole chicken leg about twice, then swallows

When I have pups, they have chicken wings from 4 weeks of age.....of course I don't leave them unattended, but they cope fine with them

Thanks everyone

No ill effects so far. I have no problem with wings, have fed them for years and years. Just the bigger ones I worry over - they are big dogs, they're GSD's. Getting happier with feeding lamb ribs too, but no more necks, I just worried myself stupid over the necks (also no ill effects ) Had a chuckle over your newfie Shaynlola :-D

I'm the opposite,i hardly feed wings, but feed necks nearly everyday. The bones in wings are hard, where as the necks are mostly cartilage as you know :) I just freak more when they swallow a chunk of wing then i do necks.

Not making myself clear Ktee - it was lamb necks I meant, scared me to death. Poultry necks I'm also fine with

:-D Funnily enough that would be very topical for me right now as well

They will really love you for a whole chicken. I might make that their christmas present this year if I'm brave enough. Perhaps a quail instead :-D
