Hiya
My mother has given me a pack of raw bones that she's bought from Morrisons for my dogs. Trouble is I've no idea what they are or from what animals! So what I'm wondering is, are there any bones you would not give them? They are well used to chicken wings.

Thanks!

Linsxxx :)

Nope any bones that are raw, and obviously from animals fit for human consuption should be fine.  Chances are they will be beef, Lamb or Pork.  You shoudl be able to tell by the smell, especilally Lamb.

If they are just the morrisones bones that we get then they are find for dogs!  Ours love them! :D

Yes they are just Morrisons ones, it only says 'Raw bones' on the pack :D

Thanks for that Barbara and Rox - they will be soooo pleased! They've been eyeing them up since I got them :D :D

As the others say they will be fine.  We are lucky my OH's family are farmers  and do their own butchering so every time they do we go up and get the dog mince and as many bones as we have room for in the dog freezer.  They absolutely love them and it keeps their teeth clean, we give them to the dogs for about an hr which gives them time to strip the meat off and have a chew at the bone then we take them away and bin them.  We never seem to have a squabble over bones, in fact the smallest poodle can take it off our largest bernese without a murmur and he will just go and find whatever one she has left and start chewing on that.

Looks like we have plenty of Morrisons 'stock bones' fans on the list.

Guilty as charged! Mine have them nearly every day along with other stuff.

Hi again
The dogs loved the bones and made short work of them. Some I thought were pretty big but there was so little left! Anyway... I went to the butchers today and he gave me 3 HUGE raw knuckle bones for my woofers (the bones are nearly as big as them!) but the boys won't touch them, so right now they are sitting, looking menacing and bleeding all over my kitchen floor (the bones not the dogs) so what do I do with them now? Chuck them? Wrap them up and put them in the fridge and try again tomorrow? Or leave them where they are? (yuk :D)

I was surprised, I thought they'd love em! Maybe they are too big?

Mine will demolish small bones instantly but will leave marrow bones until they are ripe.  It seems they improve with age, and by being buried in a small amount of soil!

Put out in garden and leave for afew days, they will then be very yummy to the dogs, but whatever happened DO NOT let them (the bones) get back inside the house!!!!! :D

No problem there - they're that big they can't lift them :D :D Will the flies not ruin them? Theres tons of meat left on them...

Will the flies not ruin them

My lot say meat and bones taste better when rancid and covered in flies  I would leave them outside for a couple of days and then chuck them in the bin if they're still not interested. Mine will start to eat marrow bones straight away but they're half hearted about it at first. I don't let them have them in the house so they have to leave them out at bedtime - they are mad keen to get to them the next morning so being left out must do something for them :)

my boxers love them too.  Our butcher keeps allsorts for ours.  Pigs heads, trotters, pigs skin and fat. My dog will carry a pigs head around the garden in his mouth :-)
Thank god i don't have neighbours.  although i did once take a pigs head down for my uncles dog, he thought it would be funning to hang it on his washing line to scare his neighbour.  The pigs head....not the dog!

We got pigs heads once ..... never again .... Noobie jumped onto the windowsill and left hers there to scare passers by and it bled all into the radiator (So vile) and North ate his entirely and had the worst wind ever for 3 days which was made worse by us thinking of a piggy head every time we smelt it :(

they do smell :-)

Mine are the same. They eat small bones instantly but large marrow bones are usually chewed over a few days then thrown in the bin.  I also am worried about the flies all over them and the other problem of them always trying to bring them into the house, they smell horrible.

Yes my lot dine on marrow bones over several days :D
