Why on earth would you buy someone a pet camel as a gift!? This would almost be comical if it wasn't for the fact that the poor woman has been killed by the 10 month old, 152kg beast  What a bizarre way to go.

Her family must be absolutely distraught!   They gave it to her as a gift - think that the moral here must be that if you give such a gift, do make sure it is castrated.

Agreed! Maybe a female might have been a better choice.

Dreadful - I heard it on the news this morning and I am sure that the reporter had a strained voice as if he had an awful urge to laugh - it was a horrific pointless and ridiculous way to die.  They couldn't have known anything about camels - pets! - they are working animals that from what I have heard are not the best tempered creatures anyway.  I didn't catch where it happened though?  I know that someone keeps a llama in with a herd of sheep not far from here -

The article says the woman was in Australia.

Llamas are a different kettle of fish - it's getting more common to keep them with sheep over here as they're such good guardians.  Wouldn't recommend a camel to anyone though!!

In some ways - its not that different from being attacked/killed/squished by a horse. Young colts can be dangerous - as can some stallions. Its not advisable to wear perfume around them - for example. Its a shame - but I really don't think giving someone a young male ill mannered animal of that size as a gift is a good idea.

What is it about the perfume?
- By Carla Date 20.08.07 14:09 UTC
Some types of perfume contain a certain pheramone that get colts and entires a tad, um, excited... not good.

:eek::eek: The things you can learn on here! :D

I know quite a few dogs that react the same way to perfume. ;) At least the wearer should be pleased - after all, it's worn to make the person more attractive to the opposite sex! :D

I must admit that when I read it I did have a smirk on my face, although I must admit it must have been awful for her and her family.
