Topic Dog Boards / Showing / which classes......
- By DEARLADY [gb] Date 11.08.07 18:12 UTC
if I can just pick your collective brains....!!
I am just filling out the forms to enter 2 of my hounds in our breed show next month. They are both litter mates, male and female, and will be 14 months old on the day of the show. The classes I am definitely entering them in is Junior D+B. But there are also Special Beginners/Special Yearling and Special not bred by exhibitor/Special New Members......

I've never entered in any of these before, the bitch has previously won Junior and Best Puppy in Breed at an open show in April, but other than that no previous showing so am a bit nervous (plus as it's the breed show they'll be under scrutiny, as will my handling  )

either way, it should be a good day out so am looking forward to going

In most breeds it is common to enter more classes as there are usually trophies and or points trophies etc, and it is good experience.  I enter as many as five classes with dogs of that age at club shows, especially as some will be well split up with other classes in between.

I would enter all the special classes which the big guns usually won't be eligible for.

Is this a numerically small or large breed as in my breed it would be normal to enter as many classes as you like to gain experience and practise, but the classes tend to not be large.

If the classes are small the dog is in and out the ring before you know it without having really got the hang of it.  I have found with young dogs they often are better in the later classes.

The day my Jozi won her  and my first CC at our club championship show she was entered in Junior Bitch, special Yearling bitch, Graduate bitch, Post Graduate bitch and Special Beginners bitch.

Having won five classes she knocked a lot of dogs out of the challenge, had settled and got the hang of things and was able to compete well enough to win the CC.

I would go for not bred by exhibitor and special yearling.

Personally myself I only eter one breed class at then a stakes/specials class and also maybe a brace class for fun! :D

I only ever enter one breed class and maybe one stakes or av class as you can then withdraw to stay unbeaten just in case :D at least the club still gets your money that way :)

This is a breed show though, so withdrawal isn't an option. I'd do Junior and Special Beginners.
