Hi has anyone got any tips on how to stop a Labrador from flying his tail when it wags its nice and straight but moving forward he is lifting it and its curls slightly

I dont have your breed so cant help there but I do have a girl who likes to flag her tail when excited , I have heard so many idea to handle this some I dont agree with .. I touch her tail and say tail down so that when we are moving if I see her flag I say tail down which after a period of time seems to be working but its not an overnight cure.

wellcome to CD :)

As starryeyes says.  You need to teach him "tail down" and to do this you need to keep pushing it down gently giving him the command.

This is also a dominant thing that can happen with male dogs on the move (and some bitches) In my own breed you see it quite often especially in Limit and Open dog classes.

Thanks for the replies i will give "tail down" a try i was going to stop showing all together because of this problem but he has done really well in open shows it seems to be the champ shows we get kicked out and he is a nice looking dog i think its defiantly a macho think

Just a thought - I would suggest using another phrase (it won't matter to the dog!!) or you'll just draw people's attention to his tail if they hear you :) :)
