While driving to Tesco today a springer spanial ran across the road in front of me so me and my OH stopped to check for a name on the collar. Anyway there was no name so we bundled him in the back of the car and had a drive round to see if anyone was looking for a dog. Couldnt see anyone.

I rung the local radio, they announced it on air, rung all the local catteries and dog kennels and included the Police. That was at 11.30 am - still no sign.

Im taking him in to the vets when they can fit me in to check for a scan thing.

So for now we have a really cute brown and white spanial, approximately 6 months old who has really taken to my OH! I will try and get some photos for you. :D

Someone has just rung me and claimed him. :( Im kinda sad but glad that he wasnt roaming the streets all night. We thought he was a pup of 18 months or so but in fact he was actually 9! (Shows how much we know!!)

So thats my good deed done for this week. Just waiting for the owners to pick him up. Apparently he escapes quite a lot! You'd think they'd put a tag on his collar really wouldnt you!!

One day his owners won't be as lucky that he gets picked up by concerned people like you and he's taken & used as dog fighting fodder.

Well done to you for your good deed, but I agree one day she won't be that lucky. Some dogs just deserve better owners.

If he's a true gundog they don't believe in collars!!

Collars are too dangerous in the country with a hunting dog such as a spaniel which could get caught up and strangled.

Even a poodle I knew was killed by getting caught by the collar in brambles - probably made worse by the coat, I expect.   The owners were gutted.

We don't put collars on our dogs where they are in the house due to once having an accident caused with two dogs playing and one dog getting the others caught in their mouth, then twisting so it wrapped round the lower jaw.  Since then dogs do not wear collars in the house.

However if a dog kept on escaping the garden/house should be much more secure.

At least the dog is reuinited with his owners.  Don't get too judgementle to early oone about someone. :)

From what I picked up the dog isnt used as a gun dog just a family pet and the dog had a collar on - what I meant was why not put a tag on the collar or even write a number in the collar with him constantly getting out. :)
