what do all you guys and gals do with all your litters poo paper or dirty litter etc , we are getting at least 1 black bag of soiled newspaper a day and its growing!! theres only so much you can get in the wheely bins, will the local tip have problem with us taking it there do you think?
we used to burn it but its not very environmentally friendly, any ideas?

The papers that were just wet I used to put into the blue paper recycling bin - after all the recycling process involves it getting wet anyway :) Pooey papers in the ordinary bin, you just have to really squash them down! I don't think the tip would mind you taking them there at all, I have a friend who was only allowed planning permission for her stables if she agreeed she wouldn't have a muck heap. The horse poo goes in plastic bags to the tip - not nearly as environmently friendly as a muck heap!

Ditto just squash them down by climbing in the bin with a piece of card on  top.

Jane...can't imagine stables without a muck heap! We used to make a really tidy one, and when the man came to collect it we grooms had the 'muck money' :) Does the local tip actually accept it (well, I guess it must ;) ) because our local council tip won't accept doggy do bags (yes they do check bags occasionally) :D

I know - crazy isn't it. My friend purchased a huge field in the green belt. She was allowed planning permission for a barn with stables and an indoor school - but no muck heap. The horses aren't allowed straw bedding - they have rubber matting so it's less mess to take to the tip   To enclose something so easily biodegradable as horse manure in plastic bags and put it in a landfill is just bizarre - but thats town planners for you :D

To true Jane, and at a time when the enviroment dept of councils are trying their best to get us to recycle wisely! Makes no sense at all!

That is crazy.  the info printed from our council is that dog waste should be binned in the general rubbish (black wheelie bin) but that Rabbit and herbivore waste can go with the green collection (if you choose to have one as in Bristol you have to pay for it, but in the neighbouring South Glos they give you a green bin).

Thats interesting Barbara. Isn't it funny how different councils have very different views  my friends stables are in South Lanarkshire.

It's crazy that you have to pay extra for a green collection! Here in West Lothian we have brown wheelie bins, free of charge for compostable waste - grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, fruit & veg peel and coffee grounds but we're not allowed to put small animal waste in it. I have to admit though to putting the odd dog poo in there if I've just picked them up and tied off the bin bag, which goes in the household rubbish bin, then go to cut the grass and find another poo hiding.

We just took all the dirty papers up to the skip.
