we lost our dog at the end of may, we think she had this condition has we have now found out theres something wrong with her mother, i just wondered if someone can tell me please if both parents are best to be clear of this, as we are looking for a new puppy and was told by one breeder that if one dog is clear and the other is a carrier then the pups will be clear, i thought that both dogs have to be clear to produce a clear litter,

<i thought that both dogs have to be clear to produce a clear litter>

You are right. A clear to a carrier will produce some clear and some carriers. The only guarantee of a clear pup is clear to clear.

To ensure UNAFFECTED pups you must not mate Carrier to Carrier or carrier to affected.

Clear to Carrier will give you half Carrier and half clear offspring, but no AFFECTED pups.

To be born hereditarily CLEAR then BOTH parents must be CLEAR but also
If a CLEAR is mated to a CARRIER there will be a mix of Carriers and clears in the litter- the only way you will know is to TEST all the pups

the AHT site gives all the info on this- if you need more info please PM me and I will do my best to help
