Can any one give any advise re a male not wanting to mate.
He has had the chance to mate 3 girls now all well behaved.
All did have puppies when mated to our other male
So we know it was not them .
He comes out to say hello to them looks as if he will .Then nothing on one girl got on her back all for 2 seconds
Then he just does'nt bother
We have put him in a dog run next to the mating pair to see if that will gee him up, no he seems to not interested at all.
Which is a great shame as he has had all his tests done A lovely looking male Very well bred .
Just wondered if any one has had the same problems And what did they do
Will have a word with our vet this week to see what he can come up with
But before i do i thought i would ask you all .
Any advice may help
Thank you

Even if you can get him to mate, a lack of libido isn't something I'd want to risk passing on to future generations, so it might well be that you discount him as a stud and keep him simply for pet and show.

My stud dog will not mate a bitch when I am around, I have to dissappear then he gets on with it ;-). He is just about to sire his 4th litter.

I suppose he treats me as top dog

Hope this helps.

Don't know where you live but I know a man who can!  Though seeing people travel to him from Sweden etc. if you live in this country and really want to use him he may be worth going to!!  I know that there was a top Swedish champion of a certain gundog breed who just wouldn't mate the bitches so he was brought all the way to the UK and I believe that now they have no problems with him!

We had a Pomeranian that used to just dance and play and then jump on our arm and grumble at us, this person soon got him to mate a bitch and we didn't have any problems with him afterwards.  It's well worth the £10!

Hey Perrodeagua, any chance of giving me man that can number, we have a novice male, and um he does not mind being handled,is totally sex mad,but when it actually comes to uum entering the lady in question, nothing,we've tried all the tricks that we know of,and I would think shes about two days away from being out of season totally, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkk, all fully health tested,hips/elbows,etc,

If he is a lower ranking male then putting him near another male witha  bitch is certainly oen way to confirm to him that he hasn't mating rights.

How old is he?  Hs he ever been scolded for mounting behavior other than by bithes?  How hands on are you being with the visiting bitches?  Has he had the chance just to be with the bitch and feel at ease with Her?

A male I bred I tried with my own very forceful bitch when he was 4 and she three years old.  He woudl not attempt to mount if I was anywhere near, and unfortuantely she wasn't easy as seh wouldn't stand still and we ended up with her putlling away at the crucial moment so the dog tied hmself outside the bitch.

On the next season eh just gave up on ehr!

At age 6 he was presented witha  very willing maiden bitch but woudl not perform in front of an audience and an I let them alone watching out of the kitchen window.  In the end theymanaged all by themselves the moment I wasn't watching :D

After that he mated her several times growing in confidence.

he has since mated another four bitches, soem difficult with no problem and does not mind being assisted.

A dog often has to learn to be a stud if he hasn't the opportunity at a young age where often eagerness overcomes anxiety

Sadly soem very good males in my breed never became stud dogs as by the time they were given the oportunity they just didn't get the knack or couldn't be bothered.

I treid twice witha  lovely champion male who lives with another male.  His idea of mating was to hop on and off as if he were playign games with his friend.  We did manage matings with both girls but I suspect by the tiem he did manage there was no lead left in his pencil :D

He had only managed to sire a small litter more by luck than judgement before I treid him with my two who both went on to have litters next time with other males.

My advice with this male would be to get him a nice flirty expereinced bitch (not one that will jsut stand there, but not a silly maiden either), have her stay with him from quite early in her receptive stage and be discret about overseeeing them.  Let them be together all the time while you can supervise ony splitting them up if you can't.  Wehn they finally coem to mate do not ruch in until you are sure that the deed has ben acomplished when you can quietly come forward to steady them and help the male turn if need be.

You need to be very relaxed so he doesn't pick up on yoru anxiety.
