What class would you be entering a 4 year old Lab that has never been shown before  Classes on offer are Graduate, Post Graduate & Open.

I was thinking of Graduate but have been advised to enter Post Graduate because of her age

Any help out there?

Yeah I would go with Post Grad, as long as she's well  behaved. Otherwise, put her in Maiden, Novice the Graduate for a couple of months till she gains some experience.

post graduate if its a Ch show as you cannot qualify in graduate  you could enter graduate if it is an open show (hope this is corrrect)

If a champ show go ino post grad. If its an open show probably open. Many judges ask the age and may wonder why its in PG and decide it cant have won much/anything.

 :eek:CHAMP SHOWS?
Ooh, don't think we are ready for those :D I've not even had Izzy at a champ show yet! although I have entered her in B'mouth, but being still in junior, she is easy to decide as we can just work our way through the ranks :D
Molly is her mum and I have never shown her  mainly because pre-puppies, she just didn't have that something about her that IMO she needed, now, she looks fab (to me!) much more like a Lab should be, and more mature in her shape etc.

And bazb.....you said exactly what another person said to me, if in Graduate, they'd be asking why she was still in that class for a 4 year old (in other words, she can't be any good and not won much to still be there!)
TBH, I was only going to take Molly as NFC when I take Izzy to I.O.W Open Gundog Show, and was told to have some fun with her and enter her in a class as she is going anyway!

Anyone know where I can download a blank entry form as I have already sent off the entry for Izzy?

thanks for your help :)

If she is well behaved and will be ahppy to be gone over then enter her in Open at Open shows.

Hi Barbara,

She is beautifully behaved :) but has never had to "stand" and be gone over before yesterday at the companion show, which she was fine with, although her stand needs some work on  :D

so far, I've entered her into 3 open shows  graduate in 1, P.Graduate in an other, and Open Bitch in the 3rd..................wonder how we'll do!!!!!

Good luck and have fun.  A dog I bred wasn't shown until eh was almost two years old.  His owners were not going to show but came to club shows, so I suggested they enter next time.

they didn't do well at the next club Open show, but then entered and all breeds show a few moths later getting BOB in small entry then the Group and Reserve Best In show.

they then tried the club champ show but I warned them as he was a big lad the Scandinavian judge would probably not place him first, and he got second.

Their next show was an all breed championship show where he went Best dog winning his first CC, and BOB.

He is the kind of dog that some judges like and others don't so they sometimes were near the end of the line in Limit and Open and other times at the front.

He got his second Cc the following year and his title the year after that and continued to pick up Cc's and RCC's since and now is in Veteran.

The couple got a bitch by the same sire from another breeder and she became their second champion, so much for not being interested in showing :D
