our next door but one neighbours had a party in their garden last night. They had extremely loud music and it went on until 2.30 am. They had previously put a note through the doors of all the surrounding houses to say they were having this party, apologising for any noise and all the cars, and said it would end by 1 am. None of the neighbours were asked !
Does anybody know if there are any rules about how much noise you can make so late at night ? I personally feel that after midnight they should at least have turned the volume down. My husband for one had to get up for work this morning . I'm not a party-pooper, but these people are new to the area, which is pretty quiet, and do seem to enjoy making themselves heard!!!!
I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think after 10pm music should be turned down or it can be reported. They should have turned down the volume from midnight to be good, considerate neighbours but I guess as they had informed everyone they thought they would craftly let it carry on.
But to be honest, I would have let it go anyway, just this once, they were polite enough to put notes through your door which most would not have bothered to do and as long as it is not a frequent occurance it should just be let be.
When people first move in it is all about visitors and perhaps a party, once the novalty has worn off and they have got to know their neighbours better hopefully your neighbourhood will be the usual quiet haven you are used to. :-)

Its 11 :) :) :)
Had it at the scouit hut, where people who live down the road complin about EVERY bit of noise, considering the scout hut is shut up at 9.10 every night and it isnt used every night, and they moved in AFTER it was built, by about 20 years!!!! They are a pain.
We had a party up there last summer and dead on 11 the police turned up. Just after we stopped the live music!!!!!!
So its 11pm :) :)
Oh and I agree, they were polite enough to let you know. I had a partuy 2 weeks ago and let the neighbours know and had no problems. I dont mind partys as long as I am tol;d and it is not every week :) :) :)
Lea :)
I don't think anybody actually complained because they did warn everyone. But it was sooo loud, then afterwards they started tidying up the bottles etc. They must have moved inside at that stage cos my MIL who is staying said that a lot of cars parked outside left about 7am! I was just interested to know incase it is a regular occurance.
They are just a bit annoying too because when they are in the garden generally, they shout from one end to the other when they are having a conversation so everyone has to listen-- the garden is about 130ft!!! Nobody else around here does that. They have also built a log cabin at the bottom for their teenage son who goes down there to play very loud rock music and practice the drums, as well as having lots of friends around. They obviously don't want him making noise in the house. I keep telling myself that it's better that they are there than hanging around the streets, but sometimes the music has been so loud that I have to go in the house (sometimes in the afternoon when I'm trying to catch up with some gardening) I have 2 teenage sons and they have more respect for other people than that.
Thanks Lea (knew someone would know) ;-)
Hamster, I do sympathise with the sons making noise, where I used to live we had a lady at the back of us who loved to sing, she would have quite frequent get togethers (approx once a month in the summer) with her singing friends and they would put her karaoke machine and speakers in the garden and they would all sing at the top of their voices, the plus side was that the singing was good, but it was sooooo loud and it usually finished by about 10pm, but of course with children in the back bedrooms it was not ideal, somehow my boys slept through it, I just used to close my back doors, though some of the songs I opened them up to hear :-D no-one ever complained funnily enough I guess we just came to accept it. :-D

Not a drummer, you poor woman! We had a kid that lived behind us who took up the drums. It was horrible. It's a hard one because he was doing something good, playing music and learning an instrument. But not great for anyone around. It was torture. My friend's daughter wanted to learn the drums so she got an electric set with headphones. My friend is a musician himself so knew he couldn't stand having his ears assaulted in that way. :-D

Talk to the police. The council won't do that much or take forever.
Although people mention time ie 10pm etc , if noise is excessive without real reason and the noise is avoidable they the police can ask them to turn it down at anytime of the day.
