Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Whippet showing??

Hi everyone,
I'm being bullied by "non show people" to show our 1yr old Whippet because he's really flashy and struts his stuff.  I guess I could give him a try out at a small show locally first. Does anyone know of a local to us (Uttoxeter Staffs)show coming up soon that I could enter him in as a novice puppy? We are willing to travel though, but we don't want to be to embarressed if he's no good and shouldn't be shown.

How about taking him back to his breeder or sending some photos before training him and spending money? :)

I think I do need to take him back to his breeder, but she doesn't show any more so? He has very good breeding though.

If she's got the experience, she can be objective. :)

Showing can and is, time consuming, expensive, frustrating......(but i still love showing my Whippets!)

It's not something to be 'bullied' into.  You have to really want to do it yourself.  Have you been to ringcraft classes?  It wouldn't do your confidence any good to turn up at a show unprepared.

There are plenty of shows held at Stafford Show Ground - why not come along to one and watch, talk to Whippet owners and generally get a feel for it.  The Hound Show is at Stafford on 4th August - there will a lot of Whippets there for you to see.

Whippets have very large entries and it's very competitive, being 'flashy' doesn't mean you'll do well.  If your dog isn't show quality, there are always companion and fun shows to go to instead.

What is your dogs breeding?
