We have recently aquired a lovely newfoundland male puppy hopefully destined for the show ring but in
the last 3 weeks he has gone from having lovely feet/pasterns to being so down on the pasterns that he
now looks like he is walking on his wrists. He is now 14 weeks old.

We have never ever seen anything like this before and are becoming a little concerned. Some people have said
yes it is common in newfs ( but we have never had a problem like this with our other newfs we have had ) and
give him some vitamin c and he will soon be back as he was but we are worried as to what damage he could be
doing to his wrists and will it ever get better or will it just get worse and to what extent.

i have seen it a couple of feild spaniels.
only do road walking no free running trim up his nails too.

i think it when they are growing to quickly. but they look like they got flipper on their feet.

We also had this problem with one of our young males, Findlay.  He was reared exactly the same as his sister, but
he had the most awful slack pasterns and feet that looked like rhubarb leaves at 16 weeks !!!! Hers were normal.
He is now 9 months and is perfectly normal and now has lovely tight feet! So try not to worry too much.
The important thing is to make sure your puppy does not get overweight and we only give our puppies free exercise -
only short little trips out for socialisation. 

My field spaniel had this when he was a pup, I really restricted his exercise and play (in a cage at regular intervals after play to keep him from going loopy in the house and running around) when I did walk him for any distance it was on lead and I tried to get him on gravel which can help. Agree the keep the weight off him as a pp said.
My boy came up on his in the end and is shown, I remember it being a really stressful time though.
