Sit ups :)
- By JaneG [gb] Date 21.06.07 14:17 UTC
Yep sit ups, and maybe also get a fit ball, great fun, quite entertaining to try and do exercises on it....but the really great thing is it strnegthens all your core muscles by just sitting on it watching tv as you're constantly making tiny wee adjustments to stay upright :)
- By Annie Goz [gb] Date 21.06.07 14:37 UTC
:eek:sit ups....I can't do one of those let alone keep fit by doing them lol, but like the idea of the fit ball
- By RReeve [gb] Date 21.06.07 17:35 UTC
hula-hoops!
Saw it in the paper a couple of weeks ago, hula-hooping is supposed to really get your stomach down. I am doing it, but as I can only keep the hoop up for under a minute, it is probably not doing much right now, must keep practising - i used to be able to keep it going for ages when i was a kid.
- By Nikita [gb] Date 21.06.07 19:43 UTC
Lol!  Was just about to suggest that!  I can't do a single sit up normally, but on a fit ball on a good day I can do 50!  Great for toning the bum too, mine is useless (my ball I mean! :p) but then it's in the garage at the mo as I have no space indoors to use it!!
- By Gemini05 Date 21.06.07 18:15 UTC
I go to kick boxing classes, and although I have not yet got a flat stomach like I used to have I found the exercises we do for warm ups and warm downs are very good for the stomach! :D

Sits ups, as already been suggested, we do them with our knees bent and left hand top of right shoulder and right hand on top of left shoulder.

Crunches, similar to sit ups but you bring your legs up to meet your chest sitting on your bum, so as your legs bend up you bring your chest forward

Squat thrusts, get on all fours, with your hands flat on the floor jump your legs out straight behind you and then bring them back into a squat position.

Leg braces, lay flat on your back, with your arms down your sides, bring your legs up straight to touch the ceiling, bring them down slowly to the floor with 6 inch away from the floor.

Hope this helps!  :D :D

magic knickers!  how fantastic!  they work for me!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 21.06.07 19:18 UTC
Are Magic Knickers the same as Pulling Pants?
- By craigles [gb] Date 21.06.07 19:19 UTC
not sure what pulling pants are but you'd never pull a fella wearing these believe me JG !
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 21.06.07 19:24 UTC
That's the pulling I meant! :D
- By Gemini05 Date 21.06.07 19:22 UTC
PM me if you want and I will give you the details of the Martial Arts organisation as they have clubs all over the UK and you only pay when you attend! :D they do all different Martial Arts.
(And my instructor is, well FIT!)!
- By Annie Goz [gb] Date 21.06.07 19:45 UTC
Hi Have p.md you ...you might get 2 messages  first time I've done this and I think I sent one when I meant to delete it ....the turning point for me was when you mentioned the Instructor being well Fit lol

Well I have the ball, dead cheap from Tesco's but I hardly ever use it.  Can't do sit-up because of problems with my neck but just ordered an AB lounge, supposed to be just like sit-ups but without the strain on your neck etc.  We will see if it's any good, that's if I ever get it out of its box when it arrives :d  Got if from e-bay as it's soooooo much cheaper than these adverts for it on the TV!
- By Annie Goz [gb] Date 22.06.07 09:16 UTC
Just had to Google that AB lounge to know what it was, looks like fun.... if it works please don't hesitate to tell me lol looking for the easy life
- By ice_queen Date 22.06.07 09:19 UTC
I think one of them would look good infront of the TV!!! :D
- By Jetstone Jewel [ca] Date 28.06.07 01:20 UTC
What about Pilates?  Some instructors use a ball.  I think you'd need to go to a class though, just to learn the basics, before you go it on your own.
- By craigles [gb] Date 22.06.07 11:24 UTC
I've got an ab roller and can do 250 sit ups per day on there and although i do feel my tummy muscles are toned, unfortunately for me the mummy tummy disguises this!  (hence magic pants are a miracle for me!) Nothing wrong with my stomach a plastic surgeon couldn't fix but unfortunately, I can't afford it, but yes I would if I could!
- By calmstorm Date 22.06.07 12:42 UTC
Don't you just hate the 'mummy tummy'....and what a fantastic description :D.........why is it some escape it though! have a friend who has had 3 kids, back into size 10 jeans each time, no sag at all  green eyes here:P
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 22.06.07 23:04 UTC
It's actually very comfy in front of the TV :d  Managed to get it out of the box, set it up and everything!!!  Lydia loves sun loungers and tried to dive onto it, she's definitely feeling like her old self again but not acting so old :d :d
- By pavlova [gb] Date 27.06.07 20:40 UTC
a mate at work is supposed to be bringing me a slendertone machine to try you attach pads to your stomach or thighs and it sends some sort of electrical pulse through to help muscles contract not holding out much hope but you never know , I,m all flabby after losing weight, I,m on my feet all day and do lots of walking but obviously its not the kind of excercise I need.
I,m in hospital next week for a wee operation maybe I could talk surgeon into a tummy tuck whilst I,m there Ha not much hope I,m afraid.
- By MariaC [gb] Date 27.06.07 21:36 UTC
Why not get yourself a fitness dvd?  Davina McCall does a really good one 'Power of 3' and she also does a dvd with 3 seperate workouts all for different parts of the body - great fun and they do work :D :D :D
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 27.06.07 23:14 UTC
Well up to 26 sit-ups a day and 20 minutes on my lateral thigh trainer, so slowly getting there.  Belly still flabby though, you would of thought that it wd. be really skinny after 5 days :d
- By Jetstone Jewel [ca] Date 28.06.07 01:27 UTC
A young neighbour has lost about 150 pounds.  She went to a personal trainer for exercise, diet, motivational and emotional help.  She was grossly overweight and now is very slim and trim.  Even at her young age (26-27 I think when she did this, maybe younger) she could not lose the sagging skin and had surgery to remove it.  Funny thing is how it has changed her personality.  She was not a nice person before; very officious and an awful know it all.  She is so much nicer now, she is a new person in more ways than one.

Last year - I went down to under 8 stone after personal problems - I'm 5'8 - and I looked awful.  This year is a different matter! - I've put on a lot of weight  (in all the wrong places) and weigh just over 11 stone - a lot of weight in just a year.  I've got quite a tummy at the moment - so I'm going to try one of those ball things!  I hate exercise though......
- By Jetstone Jewel [ca] Date 28.06.07 14:38 UTC
Me too.  I'm also 5'8" and at one point I went down to 115 pounds (8.21 stone) and complete strangers felt free to comment on how my clothes were hanging loosely on me.  It took several years to get back to normal adult weight of 130 lbs.  Now, after the big M, I'm up to 150 (10.71 stone).  That's still acceptable for my height according to those BMI charts but I'd feel better at a little less.

What's really weird is that when I was a tall skinny teenager I sewed my own clothes in a size 10 and bought clothes in a 10.  Now I'm so much heavier and sew a 14 but am buying RTW in an 8.  The fashion industry has adjusted its sizing for all of us aging baby boomers.  I don't think you had a boomer phenomemon in the UK but in Canada we did.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 28.06.07 18:23 UTC
I'm 5ft 7 and over 11 stone, a few years ago, well four to be precise I went down to 8 stone due to stress (house break-in, missing dog, rubbish time at work).  People still say I look skinny at 11 and a half stone but I really want to get down to about nine and a half stone.

Been doing really well on my AB lounge.  Yesterday I did around 30 sit-ups.  Today I've done nearly 60 and will try and do some more later.  Will be on my lateral thigh trainer in a bit and try and do about 15 minutes.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 28.06.07 21:18 UTC
Done 100 sit-ups today and 15 minutes on my lateral thigh trainer, think that's enough for today :d
- By LJS Date 28.06.07 21:29 UTC
I am 5 ft 8 and used to be your weight and was skinny as was quite fit

Then had children and a bad back then I am 4 stone heavier :rolleyes: It will come off as the new house ( if it happens :D ) will have gym room

BTW have you got a Literal thigh trainer :D
- By Annie Goz [gb] Date 29.06.07 12:48 UTC
Hi Have given myself 2 months to get my act together if by that time I'am still messing about (being an idle so and so ) then I'am going to have to join a martial arts school so that I can keep fit:eek:
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 29.06.07 13:14 UTC
Done 45 sit-ups so far today and boy can I feel it :d  Somebody at work got hold of my skirt today and mentioned how loose it was at the hips.  I've just measured myself and around the hip area hasn't changed but around where my waist is supposed to be I've lost 3" and that's in 6 days!  I even noticed a little dip on each side this morning where my waist should be :d
