Hi all,
can you shed some light on the problem with my boy.
for the last couple of days, when i let my boy out of his kennel on a morning he has quite a lot of snotty green coming from his nose, i have put him on antibiotics just incase somthing is ligering.
He is totally well in himself and as mad as ever and also eating very well.
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THIS COULD BE?

I always thought snot in the nose could be a sign of kennel cough? I would certainly talk to my vet to check it out.
>DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THIS COULD BE?
What did the vet say it could be - only vets can prescribe antibiotics and different conditions need different types of AB and different course lengths.
DO NOT SELF-PRESCRIBE - you could make it far worse and encourage any bacteria there to become AB-resistant.
NO NO NO!!!
sorry i should have explained properly, i have spoken to my vet on the phone and he actually prescribed these, i did ask about kennel cough but he didn't seem to think so as he is so well in himself. He just thought he may have a cold just like we get, but i am suspicious about that so thats why i am asking everyone on here as i have often gotten better advice from here that from my vet.
i better book him in to be seen
I would NEVER self prescribe, but i do understand where you are coming from

Phew! Thanks for clarifying that. :)
It's possible that he has a foreign body up his nose - grass seed? piece of straw? - and the mucus is trying to flush it out. What sort of bedding does he have in his kennel?
I would book an appointment with another vet. I would want my dog checked over and find out what was wrong before he was given any ABs. Like JG says, there are different types/strengths for different ailments, and until he has been seen how can he say its a cold/kennel cough or whatever.
it's funny you should say that jeangenie, because the other day he got through the gate where my garden part is and i have all my flowers there and nice garden thing(the stuff you cant have with dogs lol)
i went and found him in the, he had been digging away and pulling trees up etc, when i found him he had a total black face with circles around his eyes, he also had a small twig up his nose which i slowly pulled out, maybe it has somthing to do with this
Is the green stuff snot or puss? i hope you see the vet soon.

I've always associated a 'green discharge' with infection, if it is clear it's usually ok but green not good - see another vet!

It's possible that the stick has done some damage inside his nose and infection's set in. If a small piece of stick, or a splinter, or any other foreign body is there ABs alone won't cure it. If he were mine I'd want him examined.
