I live on a council estate now a lot of people down my road/cul de sac bit of the estate have lived here a while - new people can still be "new people"after they have been here 10 years however last few years some of the older people have moved on/died.
Well there is a family moved in really nice not seen much of them anyhow night before last there were a few youths hanging about outside by their car - which is not normal really.
The chap went out to ask them not to lean on his car, words were spoken but the lads moved on the chap is not small.
Anyhow last night the lads/youths came back - mob handed- well in their eyes I think they thought they were.

Wrong move in our road - instead of facing one chap and his wife the lads/youths (about 9 of them) were all of a sudden faced with - 35+ households men/ women - assorted ages with more coming out. The lads/youths were kept in one place as the police were called they were detained nicely of course oh yes pictures were taken of them - by person/persons unknown so we would all know who to look out for. And more importantly who to find if anything goes amiss in the near future.not that it will. Of course they were obviously not expecting the response they got. The police officers thought it was hilarious (when the lads had been moved on and said "power to your elbow"

Tonight the new chap has been walking round thanking everyone. Now isn't that nice of him, when all we were being in neighbourly. Oh he had not told anyone of what happened the other night - but the lads were seen when back as a group hanging outside his house and his next door neighbour an older chap - knocked on his other neighbours and word spread  as it does - hence a fair few people were out in 10 minutes. All I can say is the lads should be rateful our hard core "of elderly women" were at Bingo.

It is not normal for my road in any way shape or form I think if he had made clear to the lads he lived there they would have moved away.

Excellent! How lovely to read of such true community spirit. So many people would think 'not my problem' and not get involved and their community suffers as a result.

It is so good to hear about neighbours sticking together.

Now that is Great Britain at it's best, that is the spirit and unity every street should have. The human race is still alive and kicking.:-)

That is brilliant.  It certainly wouldn't happen where I come from!

Wonderful - that's how it should be - a great pity that things don't happen like that in other places :( :( I'm sure that you won't be rushing to leave :) :)

thats a great story Karen but horrific how it could have turned out in a less neighbourly street.  It's regularly in the papers about people getting stabbed, shot and battered to death for approaching people who have damaged their property.  Neighbourhood watch at its best - in my street neighbourhood watch generally consists of people coming outside to watch the neighbours from hell having yet another scrap in the street!

Karen,

I read this with tears in my eyes, what a wonderful street you live in and what wonderful neighbours! are any houses for sale?  I'd love to move there!

Our street used to be like this, and was very quiet, sadly people have moved in, attracted by how quiet it has been, and now we have several families whose behaviour has made living here very unpleasant :(   Because there are only 11 houses, we now are in the minority :( :(
