Piper went to be spayed today and I have to collect her in the morning, The girls play a lot so would it be best to keep them seperate for a couple of days? Poor Skye has been wandering around all day looking for Piper and wouldnt leave my side at all during our walks. She is now asleep in Pipers crate whereas she normally sleeps on the sofa.
I was told she could only have short walks on lead but not for how long any ideas. She is six months.
I just worry as I got her from the RSPCA and they insist on using their vet to do the operation and I dont know them, I would have been much happier using our own vet as I know and trust him and Piper would be home tonight. Why do they insist on using their vets and not letting you use your own?

I was advised 2 weeks lead walking even if just going into the garden.  Unfortunately, even though I listened to the advice my dog totally ignored it and I spent much of my time wincing as I tried to stop her jumping about inside the house   She also point blank refused the pain killers even wrapped up in food and didn't seem to realise anything had happened.  She had a broken claw removed at the same of the spay and to be honest the bandage around her foot seemed to be the only thing bothering her.

I know how you feel though, it's the mum in us :)

Im not worried about her taking the pills she is such a pig she will eat anything, trying to keep her still is going to be fun.

"Why do they insist on using their vets and not letting you use your own?"

Two reasons as far as I am aware:

1) they get a discount

2) This way they can be sure the operation has been carried out.

With regard to aftercare, I have always found the use of Rescue Remedy beneficial after any kind of surgery.

She is home and feeling very sorry for herself. Skye keeps nudging her to get her to play but she isnt having any of it.
When I picked her up the staff said she had turned out to be a lovely dog and was very well behaved, I thought you wouldnt say that if you saw the state of the living room yesterday morning, she had ripped the metal waste paper bin apart and one of my new throws.
Glad to have her home again I dont think you realise how big a part they play in your life until they arent there.

But also they trust their vet???

Plus of course cost plays a huge part...
