Hi Has anyone used this, and does it work (for stopping urine patches in the lawn). I have a huge problem with this and am tempted, but am concerned as to whether it is healthy for the dog. Apparently it is made with Yucca extract, so is natural - but wouldn't jeopardise my hairy darlings! My other idea at the moment is astroturf in a particular favourite spot which currently looks like a wasteland:rolleyes: Strangely enough it is my neutered male who seems to create the most problem (probably the amount)
Remember that altering the pH of the urine can lead to problems with stone-forming. It's probably safest to make sure your dogs' urine is dilute by making sure they drink plenty rather than trying to alter the acidity.
As Jeangenie says, altering the dog's urine is not the best idea. Have a watering can full and ready by the back door; if you can water the pee within an hour of him going, it should dilute it enough to stop any damage. Any longer and the difference is negligible; 24+ hours later and it's completely pointless. I don't know how you could go about encouraging the grass to grow again - I have two spots in my garden that are just like yours, totally grass-free because of my neuetered male always going on those spots (they are next to the posts for my washing line ).
I also have this problem, and having recently returfed a large area of the garden I bought some "Vapet Lawn Rescue - First aid for lawns" I bought it at my local garden centre. The only inconvenient bit is that for best results you have to spray it on the lawn as soon as poss after they have wee`d. It says that it has been specially formulated to neutralise the staining agents and acid in pets urine by converting them into natural salts The salts pass down easily into the roots of the grass where they will nourish them. Also says it contains an environmentally friendly plants grown promotor one application can actually help promote the growth of your lawn !!. I have been using it for about 3 weeks now, not sure if it is too early to tell but grass looks great.
