Topic Dog Boards / Showing / about time !!!

Finally the Kennel Club are investing in a permanent venue for dog shows - it will be at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire - so nice and central for most of us - hopefully this  will be the first of many such show centres  - I know that this idea was mooted by Joe Cartledge many years ago but at last it has got off the ground  :D - this sounds as if it will be specifically adapted for dog shows with all the facilities we want - absoloutely fantastic idea ! - well done the Kennel Club !!! :D

Yes good move for once! :)

Might make sports connexion in ryton bring prices down aswell, same area and alot of breed clubs especially have had to move away from sports connextion due to cost.

Very happy because also not far from my boyfriend (couple of miles) so if I have along wait between breeds and groups, or finish early it shall be lunch at his friends resturant!!!! :D  Yup all in favour here!!!!!!

Excellent, just 5 minutes from home

hour and a half for me so not too bad at all :)

The idea of the price of the venue is to stay in line with other venues in the area so it may not necessarily bring the cost of the Sky Blue down.
Lets hope lots of societies and breed clubs use it.

Yes but Sports connextion (sky blue is the football ground) standard price isn't really too bad for the area, although is on the expensive side however they make extra money though charging for each table used etc.

The new venue at stoneleigh may also have better lighting and if sports connextion do loose societies they will have to consider a way to get people back.  I can imagine they make a nince bit of money from the dog shows though hire and food :)

Might be central for you Yvonne.  For me up in the far North East of Scotland it's still one heck of a trail!!!
- By Trevor [gb] Date 02.06.07 15:42 UTC
ahh but you hardy northerners are used to all that travelling ;) ....I mean lets face it the Shetland Isles are probably central for you LOL....seriously though i do take my hat off to any exhibitor from Scotland or Cornwall that makes the trek to most of our Champ shows ...but you must admit this IS a step in the right direction as far as the show scene is concerned.

Did it not say they were looking at the possibility of maybe doing something similar in scotland and wales?
- By belgian bonkers Date 02.06.07 19:15 UTC
Ya cheeky mare  lol.
Even SKC is a four hour drive for me!!
Definately a step in the right direction, though I don't do as many champ shows as others.

Right with this venue now being the new thing for dogs shows etc...Where haven't shows been held there in the past?

Not acctually my question but when my boyfriend noticed the dog paper headlines he asked the question above to me and I don't have a clue!  If it's good enough now why not before?

(I hate questions from non dog showin people....They always get me thinknig outside the circle!!!!)

I don't know? They have been held at the main venue (Stonleigh) as Birmingham (september) is there.

Its a new building ice queen, and hopefully will not be charged at the sort of rates Stonleigh would charge their own buildings out at.
- By ice_queen Date 05.06.07 20:36 UTC
Ahhh so previously it was just too expensive then I take it?

Makes sense that way :)

Aaahhh the Midlands yet again.  No-one of any significance lives north or south of there!!!!

I hope they look to at least being able to accomodate shows outdoors rather than in, I hate indoor venues unless it's the middle of winter or bucketing with rain.  Dogs move so much better on grass.

Might work for Champ shows for me, too far for an open though! Great idea though, glad they've finally started doing it!

They need several venues all over the country.
