Well this I think started perhaps a yr ago but we though nothing of it as it was only an occasional tiny wet patch in her bed which we assumed was water or drool.
Any way over the last month she has be dripping on and off so we took a urine sample to make sure it wasn't an infection (my mum and dad tested at home - doctors) and were just about to take to the vets when a family emergency occured. So I came home from uni for half term and found she was still the same. Then yesterday she did much larger patches so off to the vet.

How can a 3 yr old be incontinent - is it relatively common? she is healthy in every other way. Feeling a bit sad at the moment about it but I am sure once she is being treated it will be better. Does anyone know if the tablets for incontinance have health risks and side effects to them?

P.S does anyone's dogs have a sudden personality change for no reason. Ziggi is a vizsla however has never dared put any toy in her mouth unless my other dog is attached to the other end. But now all of a sudden she is picking up toys and looking so happy with herself. She is also much bouncier (is that possible with a vizsla!!!) and very much calmer around dogs (I keep telling my self it must be my training but am not quite sure that is true!!!) anyway it is just like we have a different dog sometimes. I am not complaining though because I have wanted her to carry toys for ages so every time the praise she gets is quite rediculas lol.

Is she spayed? If so, at what age? Urine incontinence occurs in about 20% of spayed bitches according to figures in veterinary magazines.

Yes she is spayed but after her first season. At about 2 yrs old.

If there is no infection then it's possible that she's one of the unlucky ones with this unwanted side-effect. There are several options including life-long medication or even surgery. Having a bitch with the same problem taught me that allowing dogs on the furniture is a bad idea - unless you enjoy having all the cushions inside rustly binbags :rolleyes: to prevent them getting soaked. :( We tried propalin drops but they didn't really help, and the bitch is now on Incurin daily which seems to have made some difference. We still have to make sure she goes out in the garden several times in the evening, even having to wake her up to take her. We don't want to increase her dose because if it's too high it can have the side-effect of making the bitch attractive to males, and that's something we definitely don't want!

Thanks for that information. It seems at the moment that it is only in the morning. I will have to buy her her own very comfortable bed for the sitting room as she loves her cuddles. I have heard some people have had great success with the proplin drops and others who it has no effect. I think the vet said tablets so perhaps it is incurin she is thinking of putting Ziggi on. Definately don't want Ziggi being attractive to other dogs any more than she is as she has fear aggression (although better at the moment). Thanks for the information. I am hoping it is an infection but in my heart know that it probably isn't as it is only really the morning and she has no clue that she has done it :( oh well.

I had a Dobie bitch that was incontinent pretty much from puppyhood. She was on Propalin which helped a bit but it wasn't ever really cured. I just learned to live with it, waterproof coverings on furniture, wipe clean bedding etc. She lived until nearly 14!

My dog developed this nearly a year after being spayed.  She has been on Propolin since about October.  Initially there was a change in her behaviour but now down to just 7 drops twice a day and we don't have any accidents. In fact during the rainy weather we've had she showed just how long she can hold on - fair weather dog :rolleyes: :D
