Probably a silly question really, but my dog has sired one litter and all were boys. 
Desperate for a bitch out of him, and its in the back of my mind that knowing my luck he will only ever sire dogs :rolleyes:
Does anyone have any experience of a dog that only sires one sex ?

I don't think I would be panicing on the basis of one litter :)  I would of thought a bigger hurdle may be getting stud enquires from owners willing to let you have a puppy in leu, it does not seem to be done as much as it used to be.

He had had MANY a stud enquiry which I've turned down, but he does have a couple of bookings this year, so time will tell I guess

There certainly do seem to be studs that sire a higher proportion of one sex, but I wouldn't be panicking on the basis of one litter either ... unless it was a huge litter!

Funnily enough, if a dog is thought to sire a higher proportion of one sex, it always seems to be boys ... or is it just that this is the only time people complain? :D

No, but you don't automatically get first pick, second pick or a bitch puppy at all, so hurdles exist whatever way you word it :)

The stud dog that I used on my bitch was 1 of 4 - all dogs! Then my bitch had 4 pups all dogs again. It will be interesting to see what my male throws when he is used later on this year.

In regards to a pup in lieu or even buying one from a litter he's sired, I haven't even about that yet, if the chance came up then great

Put him on Vit C now & put some bicarb in his food.    I'm not telling you the theories behind this but we'll see what happens!

It is said in humans that the boys sperm are faster swimmers and the girl ones longer lived.  Most of my girls have tended to be mated later in their seasons yet I have had a predominance of girls in my litters (except the last two occasions I have wanted to keep one, both times only two girls).

When I was down at David Mortons for semen collections from my boy he was telling me that young dogs - and young men have more chance of siring males and as you get older you have more chance of siring females. Of course it's not quite as simple as that as the other things to consider are that male semen swim faster than females but don't live as long. Therefore if you wanted a bitch you would use an older dog and try for an early mating :) I've actually found this to be more or less correct with my boys, their early litters were more dogs than bitches then as they got older they had mainly female litters. For my girls litter two years ago I wanted a bitch so used an 11 year old dog and only had one mating on the first day she would stand - resulting in 3 bitches and 1 dog :)

Yes, I would agree. In all the litters we have had all have been girls and the Sire's in all were a good age. Sid sired the last lot of girls that died aged 11 and the previous litter 4 girls (1 died ) sire 14.

My dog was 2.5 when used so young and she whelped on day 60 which tells me she was mated late rather than early.
My dogs sire was 9 and in his litter were 3 dogs and 1 bitch, so not sure on the age thing, but like you say there are lots of things to consider

My dog was 2.5 when used so young and she whelped on day 60 which tells me she was mated late rather than early If the bitch was mated late, maybe ovulated a couple of days before mating it's the fastest swimmers that would get there - i.e. the boys, and your dog being so young would have lots of male sperm too. This would back up the theory then :D

Gus's first litter produced 6 girlys ( no deaths/ no boys) his other matings produced a mix of both sexes
