Hearts, eyes and an MRI Scan for syringohydromelia.

Thank you for your reply.

What is syringohydromelia, and what problems can the eyes get.?

The parents should also be at least 3 years old and heart clear and THEIR parents at least 5 and still heart clear -so it's important to look at the grandparents as well as the parents. Don't accept a pup from younger parents.

I believe it has just recently been decided to rename the condition "Chiari like Malformation".

2 1/2 years is the Club guidelines, but 3 is probably better. The eye problems are retinal folds, not a problem in themselves, but apparently if you mate 2 dogs with this problem the puppies can then have problems. Have a look on the parent Club website for more information on all health recommendations. :-)

What do retinal folds look like, anyone know?

From what I can gather from the eye specialist, they kind of look like a squiggly line. Just asking, do the Cavaliers get litter screened?

Thank you everyone.
