Has anyone brought a dog  on the euro tunnel and had a problem with it being vet phobic and the animal department not able to scan for the chip? my friends are about to have this scenario and are worried that they may not get their dog into UK:eek: I suggested that the officer could give them the scanner with him watching to let lthem scan the dog themselves....would this be allowed do you think?

We brought our dog in from France by Ferry, but they just handed us the scanner and we scanned the dog ourselves.

I can't see there being a problem :)

yes - we go to France regularly. Once our dog was mucking up a bit at the Dog Checking Station so I just asked to take the scanner and did it myself in half a second in front of the official.
As for the vet visit which happens before one leaves Europe, we found there is far less stress when we ask the vet to give our dog a Novartis Milbemax worming tablet (more palatable for him) in some dog food rather than Drontal (which he won't eat)  or a worming  injection which stings badly and for a time made our dog quite vet phobic. If your friend is happy with Milbemax then it makes the whole vet experience a lot easier.

That is fine as long, of course, as the dog is not a collie or any breed that has collie/sheepdog in it as Milbemax from the Novartis site

>Special Precautions and Warnings

>Studies with milbemycin oxime indicate that the margin of safety in certain dogs of Collie or related breeds is less than in other breeds. In these dogs, the recommended dose should be strictly observed.

>The tolerance of MILBEMAX in young puppies from these breeds has not been investigated.

>During treatment with MILBEMAX, no other macrocyclic lactones should be administered.

My vet will not perscribe this drug for any collie type dog since one patient nearly died even though the dosage was totally correct
