Topic Dog Boards / Health / Lymphoma?

Took my oldie to the vets last week because she keeps screaming now and again.  I thought that maybe her daughter had jumped on top of her when she does her bouncing up and down.  At the time vet said that a couple of her lymph nodes were up one in the neck and one in her back leg.

Took her again today because although she's been on pain killers and antibiotics she still occasionally screams out and she's been seperate from the others for a week now.  Vet said that the lymph glands were much bigger and he thinks that it may be lymphoma!

Couple of questions now.  Does anyone think it's worth having x-rays etc. when the dog is nearly 14 and will she have a good life?  All her blood results were perfect, vet actually said that he wishes that other dogs had the same results, surely if it was lymphoma wouldn't something somewhere be abnormal?

Really don't know what to do as she's still enjoying chasing her dummy although much slower.  She has lost weight and I have felt a seperate lump in her neck which wasn't there a week ago, but 80% of the time she's still so happy.

? surely blood results wouldn't be right???  Lydia's are perfect and vet actually said that he wished all dogs that came into the surgery had her results.

Blood tests often do not show anything for Lymphoma sadly :-(

So sorry about your girl, lots of positive thoughts and prayers from here for her speedy recovery.

When Spender slipped his disc, he would often cry out now and again and on other times he was fine.

I came across this on google, you might find it helpful?

She seems a bit brighter today.  Think I'll just take things as they come, she seems happy at the moment so will take her to water training on Sunday for her to watch the youngsters doing it etc.  Was supposed to be going gundog training but cancelled in case she took a turn for the worse and I just wanted to be close by just in case!

Well Lydia's not looking bad and has only cried once in the last 48 hours!!  Just popped to Tesco's and she wanted to come with me so she trotted into the van on her own and was all happy.  She does look old now but she does still seem as though she's enjoying life so I'm just going to take each day as it comes.  Who knows maybe she will make her 14th in October!

Unfortunately I don't think things are good!  There was I thinking that it wasn't as serious as I thought.  Was in bed and heard terrible scream rushed downstairs and Lydia collapsed and seemed slightly out of it for a split second.  She's now with me on the bed lay down so I think that we will spend our last night together in my bed (my dogs aren't allowed in bed!).

We were only playing find the treat 2 hours ago and she seemed like her old self again!

Laid on my bed all night which she doesn't usually do, cried out a couple of times but nothing much.  She managed to walk down the stairs and went out fine this morning.  Seems a bit happier again now.  Think I'll spend the weekend with her and see how she goes.  If she's the same tonight as last night I'll take her to the vets on Monday.  It's so hard when they seem so bad one second and the next they are wagging their tails and sharing your breakfast with you!!

Oh, I'm so sorry :( It must be even worse when you're not sure what the problem is :( :( I hope that you will have a good weekend with her :) :)

I'm so sorry, what a disappointing turn. I hope you both a great weekend together and that Lydia has more good time than bad.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 19.05.07 13:03 UTC
She seems brightish at the moment I definitely feel it's something to do with her neck and right side affecting her right front leg, but when you move them about she doesn't cry.  She's definitely holding her neck funny and her right leg doesn't seem to have full strength.  She's just had some more food so her appetite isn't affected.

Agggghh she's driving me round the bend.  Last night for 5 mins she looked as though she was going to die, today she's jumped on the settee when I popped out for 2 seconds to my van and licked the gravy off my dinner plate and then dived off as soon as she saw me coming back.  She just went out and did what she had to do and then came running and bouncing into the living room!!!

thats spanish for you.

last night all 5 of them had 1 1/2 run up the rangers at the end of the walk we meet ottoman with her dogs,

got home feed the dog an hour later, thought good they settle down for the night so we could watch tv.

god tangle was barking and whimming at us thow the gate, didnt give her any tension, then andrew got up she dash to me and wanted a cuddle from me while i was watching tv for and hour,
they are a funny breed and not every brave at time with pain or if they hurt them self, diana you know what i mean
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 20.05.07 08:08 UTC
:d  Oh yes they certainly are wimps!!  Lydia's still doing well at the moment, only one little whimper last night.  Seems fairly bright again at the moment.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 20.05.07 08:18 UTC
RIGHT, she's really taking the Michael now.  Just getting dressed when I hear wild barking look out of my bedroom window and there are people outside with their dogs.  Rush downstairs and Lydia's ON TOP of the settee barking away.  Dives off it whilst I'm in the room and now I can hear her whimpering again downstairs feeling very proud of herself driving the naughty dogs away
- By Lori Date 20.05.07 14:29 UTC
Sounds like she was just finding a way to weasel into your bed! :-D Dogs, who needs the roller coaster eh? ;-)
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 31.05.07 19:20 UTC
Oh well after almost 2 weeks of perfect wellness Lydia isn't right again tonight.  Arrived home and she was half asleep and her eyes just didn't look right.  She stood up and her right leg was hanging again and she started to scream again.  She went outside and had her wee etc and is looking sorry for herself although her appetite is good as usual.

Just wondering if she's having mini strokes now?  Will see how she goes again tonight and then I think I've seriously got to decide on what's best for her tomorrow.  At least she's had two great weeks almost of being like a puppy again.
- By Harley Date 31.05.07 20:21 UTC
Sorry to hear that she hasn't had a good day today :(
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 05.06.07 18:09 UTC
Saw the vet today who speaks English!!!  and he thinks it's what I originally thought and that she has injured a disc!!!  So had an injection today and is on 3 weeks of pain killers and also some ear drops as she had really yucky ears after coming off the antibiotics the other week.

As she's fine at the moment and been in no pain for a few days I don't know whether it's better to give them to her when she's actually having the problem or whether to just give them to her just in case.

So again at the moment we are back to having a great time and fingers crossed she still may make it to her 14th birthday in 4 months time!!
