it seems all i have been doing today is removing ticks i have taken 1 out of freya 1 out of zeus and 4 out of the puppy (arin).
where do they come from i am guessing they catch them in the garden but from what.

Hedgehogs, most likely, if you're certain they're getting them from your garden. Mind you, ticks can be anywhere that any animals go (deer and sheep are other common hosts), because when they're full they drop off the host and wait til another animal comes along. So they could be in the park, in the field, in the wood ...

i think they are getting them from the garden as the park where i walk them is just really a field no sheep or other animals but does have foxes, it does have trees around outside but freya or arin are not able to go in them, where as my garden is full of trees and bushes great hiding places for hedgehogs and to be honest i did spot one about 6 months ago out the front so i no they are around.
is there anything i can do or do i just keep removing them

Keep removing them and spray with Frontline. That doesn't stop them getting on, but makes them drop off before they're full.

My OH says it's been a really good year for them and even the London parks have got them. I thought the ones I've been finding on the Cavs were from the Lake District, but no way did I miss the one right in the middle of Henry's back for 10 days, he must be picking them up in the park. Foul hateful things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yep definitely the garden have just found another one on arin couldnt have missed (right in the middle of her chest) so thats 5 in one day.
the only problem i have now is keeping a 12 week old gsd still long enough to remove them.

mine are also frontlined regulary, i to had never seen one till we got arin 6 weeks ago i am now removing a least 1 a day from someone. horrible bl***y things.

so they're is an advantage to living in the cold north. I haven't ever seen a tick on mine.

I honestly think it's due to the milder spring and a boom in population!

I've taken 13 of off Curtis after one walk, 10 of those were the immature type crawling over his head and 3 were found a few days later firmly embedded!   Well they were until they were flushed down the toilet!  And I live in Scotland where it's reputed to be colder but we've had sun & no rain, no snow etc.....  :D

Well you soft Scottish northerners! ;-) Here in Whitley Bay we had a good snow fall this Spring and the area around me provides lots of swimming whether in the river or the playing fields. :-D

Thing is Lori, mine swim like fish (Typical Munster!) but they still have ticks on them mainly because there is such a high population of deer amongst the woodlands surrounding the lochs!!!!!  ;)

Yep I agree Christine, ours swim in freezing pond too but still took a tick off Bramble the other night, first one we've seen for a while - now frontlined all over again!
And you spoke too soon, its been pouring in Fife today - and really windy - so bad they have cancelled roadworks on Forth road bridge this weekend apparently!!

Now that's plain greedy!!! :P
