2 years ago i mated my bitch on her 11&13 days i was planning to mate her now as she is just in season but her 13 day the stud dog is showing in scotland should i go 10th&12th or 12th&14TH  the stud dog is a maiden & not proved

Can you not go from the 10th to the 14th (or whenever she decides she's gone over) and just miss out the 13th?

It depends entirely when the bitch ovulates.

Bitches can vary from season to season. I have one who was mated on day 13 one time and not until day 18 the next. Her latest season (not mated) she was standing and flagging already on the third day.

I agree with Blue - after previous experience of bitches missing and/or small litters, I would always do bloods to get the right day - saves a  lot of time and worry and not very expensive.  In my opinion very much worthwhile.

Have only once used blood tests because we going a long way to the stud dog, cost a fortune and the bitch missed!! bought a mate-tel to use this time and the result is puppies due in 5 days time, its such a lottery. My bitch on her first litter was mated on 13th day and 8 puppies, next time mated on 13th day she missed, this time mated days 11 and 12 and has a tummy full of legs and paws!!!

I blood tested my bitch as I was going 300 miles to the stud dog. She was mated on days 12 & 13. The result was 9 pups born last Tuesday :D

I'd go with the blood test. I didn't thnk my bitch would be ready until day 14, so might have missed it  ;)

ring idexx on 0193754400o client service ask them to send out 3 kits for pre mate blood test  then arrange with the vet or nurse to take blood then send back the kit with blood test then they will ring you with the result when to mate her or have another blood test done.

what day is the bitch on now beacuse it may be to late to start getting readings from the blood
- By briedog [gb] Date 10.05.07 07:19 UTC
read the post you need to start doing blood from day 8 thats when i started with all my girls

I have no faith in blood tests at all, I go by my bitch and how she is reacting.  I have mated 2 bitches on day 13 only - on 3 separate occasions & had 3 litters of 14 puppies!     I have heard recently of several bitches of different breeds being blood tested only to have got to the stud dog and he's not interested as they are past their time.

But then I never scan too, I just wait for the shock when the bitch whelps!

i think day 5 but she could just be a bit more because wasnt expecting till next month so  missed the pale discharge
