Topic Dog Boards / Health / What Is A Stimulation Test
- By bevb [in] Date 03.05.07 10:21 UTC
Vet has decided to keep milo in today to do a stimulation test after his bloods all come back normal on todays test.
He is also going to x-ray him.
Can you tell me what a stimulation test is and what the vet will be looking for as I forgot to ask
I've just got visions of my boy plugged into the electric stimulating him

Hi bevb

most probably this will be the ACTH response or stimulation test - used primarily to diagnose or rule out Addison's Disease :)  It's not nearly as worrying a test as it sounds - really!  Your dog's bloods have been tested normal, for the ACTH test he will now be injected with a hormone to stimulate the adrenal gland.  Then a retest of his blood will be taken around 1 or 2 hours later to ascertain the levels of hormone and Addison's can then be confirmed as present or absent - NO wires :D.

HTH, Teri

Hi again bevb,

I think there must be a communication blip between you as this test is the only definitive one for Addison's :)

regards, Teri
