Topic Other Boards / Foo / I've calmed down now

Well I have calmed down sufficently to post this so here goes people.

Monday I was on a course for work and when it finished earlier that expected I made my way home but due to a bump on the motorway I pulled into a park and ate a sarnie I'd brought from subway.
While I was there in the carpark sunroof open I was half wathing the dog walkers bike riders etc and then an estate car pulled up and I took no notice but two large and I mean large GSD's and a Lab (I think) appeared they immediately set about a Border Collie who was pottering around before the owner of said BC could do anything the scuffle/fight was over and they proceded to attack as a group a Staffie a youngster on a lead his lady owner could do nothing but watch - she tried shouting but nothing stopped them a bike rider a chap jumped off his bike and used that as a barrier to get the dogs off the young Staff was petrified, as was his owner I think.

No owner of the loose dogs was in sight. The BC owner a youngish chap had put his dog in the car and was assisting the lady with the Staff as was the chap with the bike when the dogs came back but backed off barking as the two men shouted and waved the bike lead at them.

I got out my car to offer sancutary to the lady and Staff, when all hell broke loose to my right - one of the GSD's had hold of a lovely black lab, the other two dogs were no where to be seen the couple with the Lab had a toddler with them I assume from their age (60's/70's) a grandchild the woman started to move away with the toddler in her arms leaving his little trike thing the chap was trying to defend his dog but the poor Lab was petrified then the other two appeared back on the scence the poor Lab was trying to crawl into the owners arms and the chap tripped with the lead round his feet. I ushed the woman and Staff to my car and the two chaps with bike ran over to assist the bloke. Then all of a sudden the three dogs loosed the Lab and ran off the estate boot opened and they jumped in and a woman driving sped off. Luckily a lady in the children play area had the good sense to take a picture of the car and numberplate and the dogs getting back in on her car phone.

The Staff has three bad bites, one to front shoulderl; one to side of neck almost ear and one to his ear. His owner the lady was in tears when I left still shaking and crying.

The Border Collie had a nasty bite to his ear he was covered in blood but his coat I think saved him. His owner also had a bite to his hand from which scuffle don't know.

The Lab was petrified beyond belief and was an older dog  you could see the grey on her muzzle, she has a bite to her shoulder/neck and one to her cheek by her eye she was lucky. The chap who was in his 70's I'd say had cut his knee and a tear in his trousers where he'd fell over and I think he'd hurt his arm/shoulder more than he was saying. His wife like the lady with the Staff was hysterical as was the toddler.

The police were called I left my name and address with the police and the people involved - Thankfuly the lady in the play area had taken the number and pictures. So proof.

My car is covered in the Staffs blood.

Some people make my blood boil but for the bike rider and the BC owner being youngish men I dread to think what would have happened....

Some people do not deserve dogs, they really don't. While waiting for the police I realised the whole incident had taken 15 minutes or less.

What a terrible experience :(.  I hope you manage to bring your blood pressure back to normal with a nice peaceful evening and that all the other poor victims recover as quickly.
I do hope they are able to trace this woman, will they let you know?
- By kazz Date 02.05.07 20:05 UTC
I imagine they will let me know I left my name and address with the police and the owners. No idea what the outcome will be and no idea where the woman was while it happened.

 oh Karen that is awful. Where was this woman in the estate while all this was happening? watching?
I do hope the police find this dreadful woman :(
- By ice_queen Date 02.05.07 19:55 UTC
Such a shame there are non-decent people but nice to know that there are also people who will help, even a little like the woman taking a photo.  I hope this woman gets what she deserves, and I hate to say it but possibly her dogs put down?  Or at least given to people who would be responsibly and keep the dogs on muzzles and leads while out :(

Hope everyone involved is ok and the poor dogs are (3 attacks in under 15 mins :( )

I don't have any more words to say :(

Good Grief, that sounds like a horror movie   I really hope they get this woman, and that she is made to pay all the vets fees, and the dogs are taken off her at the very least.

The one down or plus point depending on your point of view the Staffie ate my sarnie while in sanctuary

You poor thing! How shocking! It's a good job you were there and that everyone was so brave. I hope these assailants are caught and their owner is brought to task ASAP. Yes your right, some owners do not deserve to own dogs at all. Well done and good wishes to all those poor dogs and their owners. Lets hope they recover soon.

Karen, I know only too well how upsetting intervening in anything to do with dogs can be!

I just hope that woman does get found and punished.....did anyone notify the RPSCA?    I haven't got a lot of time for them nationally, but I must admit our local inspectors were great at getting involved AND prosecuting the guy with the two staffies that I became involved with (and, incidentally, "my" staffie pinched the policeman's lunch when he was put in the police car :D :D)

I am not sure these dogs intended to do anything nasty I actually think they were over exhuberant, non socialized they could have killed the three together as a pack but it was almost a game to them I think.

However I was shook up and felt so sorry for the people involved I was almost like a puppet following the action.
- By Wizaid [gb] Date 02.05.07 21:15 UTC
That is so sad and I really hope justice comes to the irresponsible dog owner who allowed these to terrorise others and Karen I hope you are ok as it must have come as a shock to you too

Unbelievable -my mouth is literally hanging open. I do hope they find the owner and DO something!! The poor people and the poor dogs! And for the owner to just speed off -almost like a hit and run!

will the police do something as it is dog on dog?????
Or would the RSPCA with their new laws?????
Sorry just a question as remember reading that police werent interested unless they attacked a person????

People only have to feel threatened for a dog to risk being deemed dangerous.  Also, someone did suffer an injury, even if not diffectly from a bite, and damage to their clothing due to these dogs not being under control so I am sure an offence has occured.
- By Lea Date 02.05.07 21:42 UTC
Good thanks isabel. I was worried as it was mainly dog on doog they wouldnt care.
I just hope the dogs arnt PTS as its the owner that should be for letting them do it :(

Thank god there are still people out there that will get involved and help other people out. That woman does not deserve to have a dog, let alone three of them. Obviously undersocialised in manners (woman and dogs). Hope they do prosecute her as she needs to be taught that the behaviour of her dogs is unacceptable.

Well Kazz, it is very lucky that you were there to help with what you could.

And all this time the said owner did not know what was happening. She must have seen and heard everything that was going on!!  I suppose everyone was so tied up in caring for the poor dog victims, shame someone didn't sop her from leaving with these dogs. I think I would have been so enraged I'd have blocked her cars exit until the police arrived, but as you say these things happen so fast and safety was a priority.

You can't blame the dogs if they were on lead and supervised it would not have happened, though why they attacked others is beyond me, who knows how they have been brought up. :-(

Everyone involved will be shaken for a long time how terrible, when they find this woman they had better throw the book at her, and I hope that the owners sue her, it isn't a case of a loose dog with owner attacking another which I know the law is not sympathetic to, but the dogs were let out unsupervised and knowledgeably and the owner just drove off and did nothing to help either.
