Does anyone take St Johns Wart ?

I am feeling quite low at the moment with a constant feel of anxiety, I am taking quite life and tried kalms but don't seem to help, the last thing I want to do is see the doctor as the first answer would be depression and I know I am not depressed just suffering from a little low self asteem and confidence which in turn is not letting me sleep so well .

However I have been told there are side effects of this tablet ?

Thanks
Kirsty

I've been taking it for a while after I was disgnosed with moderate to severe depression, and I must say they certainly seemed to help. Things are a lot better now! As for side-effects; everything has side-effects. St Johns Wort interacts with certain other drugs so you do need to be careful. Information sheet.

There are side effects and significant interactions with other drugs.  If I was you I would go and see my GP if only to discuss using St Johns Wort.  There are degrees of depression and I am sure he will know exactly what you mean when you describe yourself as being just a little low in spirit and will be able to suggest the various options possible to improve that.  This is very familiar territory to them and they have much at their disposal other than strong drugs :)

I think people totally underestimate the strength and effects of "natural" medicines.  They are often useful alternatives but should be treated in the same way as all drugs.

Thank you for the advice everyone, going to get myself off to see the doctor and get some advice, I have been putting it off (nervous about that too) but think it would be for the best. Just very frustrated about how I am feeling and trying to help myself but after pushing on for three months feeling down I am going to brave and sort it out

In additon to what has already been mentioned St Johns Wort can produce very severe side effects when combined with sun!
