Topic Dog Boards / General / HELP HELP How do I get rid of fishy smell ugh :(
- By melster122 Date 25.04.07 17:37 UTC
Took Flynn for the most wonderful walk today.  We walked all the way along the river for about 4 hours but unfortunately he decided for the first time ever to roll in something that smelt horribly horribly fishy.  and then in poo.  I have bathed him and got rid of the poo smell but not the fishy one.

Please help.  The house smells horrible :mad::mad:

Rubbing in tomato ketchup then washing it off is supposed to do an excellent job at removing pongs.

Rubbing in tomato ketchup and then washing it out is meant to get rid of smells

Do you know I had never heard of that until the other week and it shocked me but what an awesome idea, how do you stop the dog licking it off.

You're not leaving it on for very long, and it wouldn't matter if it did. Ketchup's harmless. :)

:cool:Makes me chuckle thinking about it can see Kez trying to lick it before I get it on and he is cream so would come out a fantastic colour pink my favourite  Thankfully Kez has not rolled yet but so many people at my dog class ask and I never know what to say so now I can advise them ketchup:cool:

Err, I think that the idea is that you use it like shampoo :D :D :D (Not such a good idea on a white dog, as it turned mine pink - at least she became black and pink :D )

A baby wipe also works to get rid of the smell that can linger after washing the poo off. Was told that today and it worked :)

Must remember that one - ketchup has an even less desirable effect on me than any dodgy dog-sourced smell :D

That's what some in the US use to get rid of the skunk smells

Tomato juice is what we've always used to get rid of pongy odors.

If you've got a light coloured breed you may want to use juice as the colours in ketchup can linger... :)

Thanks everyone for your advice.  He is a Blenheim Cavalier so will probably go for the juice.  Wish me luck
