Well, there we were in the garden on a Sunday morning when the Kerry Blue T ( now 18mo) flushes a fledging crow from under a bush. Crow is big enough to run and fly a bit, but not enough. Then follows a "have you been framed "moment with crow followed by KBT followed by owner ( some way behind ) in a procession. When KBT catches up with crow he touches it with his nose, then drops back a bit to let it get a distance, then it all starts again.

After a few circuits I manage to get hold of dog and crow disappears, probably not having had the best day of its life so far.

Thing is, given the Kerry's reputation,I was expecting ( dreading) a killing bite at first contact. I suspect he was just having too much fun to want it to stop. What does the team think?

My Patterdale and GSD Cross chased a hare the full length of a field until they managed to corner it against a fence.  Like you I was waiting for the killing bite and then the inevitable game of tuggie as they each tried to get their share.  What happened?  GSD came running back to his mum as fast as he could wining and the Patterdale proceeded to nudge the hare I assume in an attempt to start the chase again.  Once the hare got it's breath back it was off. 

blimey I wish mine would do that. The 'zois will catch up rabbits and hares mid flight, toss them in the air then eat them :(  Meg met a mixi-bunny one day though when the boys were on their leads. She nudged it a bit, then tried to clean it's eyes - bless her. It's the one time I've actually let the boys off to eat a bunny - better a quicker end for the poor thing.

My Dobe loves chasing rabbits but it only seems to be about the chase for him, nothing more. A couple of times a rabbit has just stopped dead in its tracks, my boy then also stops and stands there waiting for it to set off again. Another time a rabbit jumped out of a ditch up onto the lane landing about 3 foot from him. He poked it with his nose and then let it get a bit of a head start before setting off after it :D He also loves going into my friends next door neighbours' back garden as they have a huge enclosure with guinea pigs in and he loves to just stand and watch them moving about - should get him one of his own, would keep him entertained for hours!! :P

Being around gundogs all the time, I'm used to them flushing out wildlife whilst on our walks, I have no trouble calling them off and they always obey a leave and walk on command no problems.  The only problem I ever had was with my mum's terrier cross she used to be a menace when younger, she would chase and then even when called off would go back and kill, the only one whose instincts would over-ride my commands, I had to lead her as soon as I spotted the others on a trail, until she learnt to obey all commands.

I used to say it's a terrier thing. :-)

Your lucky she may have played with it for a while and then eventually killed it.

My 2 (GSD & terrier X) love chasing crows! In the winter I was praising myself on both of them remaining so clean, even though it was quite muddy & had been raining all morning. Next minute they went underneath barbed wire into another field, which had been muck-spreaded that morning. They chased these damn crows the full length of the field, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when they came back. They absolutely stunk to high heaven & they were filthy. The joys of dog owning!! By the way the terriers recall is not good, but my GSD normally has a very good recall. When they are going hell for leather down a field making loud/screeching noises I don't stand a chance.

I have posted before about catching a mixy rabbit, neither of them knew what to do though because it just sat there in a hedge bottom. Tilly (terrier) tried 'death by barking' for about 20 mins & then reluctantly came away. It would have been kinder if they had killed it.
