i've been reading through a few websites on ovulation and this mate-tel test keeps cropping up
has anyone used one and does it work, also why not just buy a cheap microscope and slide and do it that way for a fraction of the price

Frankly I am dubious, if it was that easy and reliable then Vets would use it all the time.  We wouldn't be needing blood samples or cytology.

by mating a bitch at roughly the right time your going to get over 80% go on to have a litter anyway, so would take a proper double blind set of tests to prove if efficacy is purely coincidental or not.

I'm saying no too, I actually purchased one, normally went on instinct when my girls are ready for mating, this time we used the Matetel and had the smallest litter ever.

So it's now in the bin, next time I'll stick what my girls are telling me and not some cheap piece of plastic.

Sorry to all of you who think it worked for them, I think it's purely luck.

I have got one and have tried to use it, I can't really say whether it is useful as the first time we used one it showed that my bitch was ready and took her for mating and she missed, second time we used it on my other bitch she missed, but the third time we used it on the first bitch and she took!!!!
Sorry not much help, but we will probably use it again just to be sure!!

Hi we used matel for the first time this time and it has worked, it showed she was ready at exactly the time as our own male (used as a tease, not as the stud) told us she was ready, so must say we were quite impressed. A friend who had spent £300 plus on a draminski and never used it, lent us her draminski and quite frankly wouldnt give tuppence for it!!!!!!!!! so basically its a case of whats right for some is totally wrong for others. I would think the matel would probably be a bit difficult to use if you have a dog that has very little "spit" but not a problem with my breed. cheers di

We used a cheap microscope, when the ferning started, we got her pre mate tested, to make sure.  Had one mating on day 17, then 59 days later, 9 lovely puppies.
