Wondered if anyone had any ideas for the first few minutes in the morning when i let my 10 month old weim out of his crate. He is so excited to see me that he goes absolutely mad for a good 5 minutes or so.When i say mad i mean he jumps all over me wether i am sitting or standing, and he scratches me with his dew claws especially and he is very heavy, i think he thinks he is a weim in a chihauha's body , all fluffy and light!!!!!!!!
This also happens when i leave him to go upstairs to the toilet or out to the car, he cries and whines until i come back.
So any advice would be grateful.

I found ignoring the excitement of the puppy when he first sees you in the morning works, let him out of his crate, don't talk to him or look at him and take him straight out into the garden for wee.
It may also work when he gets excited after youve been upstairs

Yes i have tried ignoring him but 25kg of weim puppy throwing itself at you is hard to ignore.

try incorporating a few simple commands with attention only being given(vocal and physical reward )when they have been done eg sit, paw etc.

I would go with the ignoring too. Eventually the message will get through, and in the meantime you'll just have to grin and bear it :D Say absolutely nothing though, and no winces of pain either! I had to do this with my Dobe. He's just turned 3 now and still occassionally goes OTT so I just stand there completely non-descript. It is hard to ignore I agree (he's 45kg now!) but with mine at least I found that anything verbal (training commands included) made him completely wild with excitement. He would eventually sit if I told him to but then when released he'd be bouncing off the walls! Good luck :P

Get him to be calm and teach him he gets praise when standing/sitting still.

Go to open the cage armed with a few treats and get his attention on those while you praise him, if he jumps up give him a command and get his attention back onto what you want him to do using the treats.
