I hoping to surprise my boyfriend next week with a few days away before he starts his new job and have narrowed it down to the East coast of Scotland, particularly Fife.
Just looking for recommendations on areas, ideally I wouldn't us to be too far from Edinburgh so we can go for one day but somewhere out in the countryside where we can just chill!
Any suggestions appreciated :)

The
East Neuk of Fife is very pretty and you're probably about 45-50 mins drive from Edinburgh, if you get too far south into Fife you hit a lot of the working towns like Kirkcaldy & Glenrothes which aren't too picturesque. (Sorry Pam! ;) )
Anstruther has a wonderful fish & chip shop where in the summer, queues stretch right down the pavement. You are also not far from St.Andrews with some nice shops and if you cross the Tay you have Dundee.

Emily rose if you like a bit of shopping Dundee has come out in a recent survey as being one of the best places to shop in Scotland and those surveyed chose it over Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen. Not sure who they surveyed but lots of countryside and beaches in Angus and plenty of shopping and pampering in Dundee.

Falkland is lovely and so is St Andrews. If you have lots of pennies to spend St Andrews Bay Hotel is supposed to be amazing! Culross on the south coast of Fife is very nice too as is Aberdour or North Queensferry. I would avoid Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes(born in one and work in both) for anything other than a quick visit. It really depends what you want to do and how isolated you want to be. The East Neuk is worth a visit as ChristineW says, If you do stay in that area then you should visit Tentsmuir Forest and Kinshaldy Beach if you have transport, fantastic walks and lovely beach.
Hope you enjoy your visit, but remember to bring a coat!! (although it was gorgeous today) :-)

kinshaldy beach is lovely and if you are taking any dog with you they will love the beach and the woods.

Remember a tick remover though, it's reknown for it's tick population! Tentsmuir that is not Fife. ;)
Thankyou everyone for your replies, have lots to think about now!
Not taking any dogs as they are south of Newcastle with my parents...it's a bit of a romantic weekend away as it'll be a year next weekend since we met and me being the soppy g*t I am I decided to wisk him away somewhere nice for a few days :D :D
Was in Dundee last summer for a festival and it did look very nice but was a little bit too far to drive. Have been looking at hotels in Edinburgh but out of my price range really, wanted one night in the city then another out in the sticks so will get my thinking cap back on!!
Thanks again :)

If you want to stay in Edinburgh at a reasonable price have you thought about a youth hostel? There is a brand new
one really close to the city centre, it's apparently 5 star and looks really nice - and only £18.50 a head :) For this you can get a twin ensuite room!
I looked into the youth hostels as we stayed at a really nice one in Prague, double bed and en-suite and about 15 mins walk from the main parts of the city.
We were really impressed and it only cost about £8 a night each but I couldn't find any double rooms in Edinburgh and most hostels wanted a 2 night or more stay but I was only after 1 night really.
Will continue my research tho :D

Try Travelodge at Dunfermline, you're only about 20 minutes from Edinburgh.
