My beautiful girl is unwell. :(

Day before yesterday I saw her eating something in the park and then the diarrhoea started.  Night before last she whined several times to go out so yesterday didn't give her anything to eat but last night as she was licking crumbs off the floor relented and gave her a little rice.  Through the night she had us up several times again but now diarrhoea was more dire and there was blood in the sick.

Poor girl was looking sorry for herself today.  I managed to persuade her to drink some water but she brought it all up and as I hadn't seen her wee today decided enough was enough and took her to the vets.  Vet said she was dehydrated so have kept her in to put her on a drip.

That look they give you as they are led away really tugs your heart strings. :(

Poor Paris, and poor you :(  It's so worrying when they're sick.  She's in the best place for now and, fingers crossed, she will be back home soon, fit and well.

Keep us posted on her progress, please.

She's still there :(  The vet was frightening me yesterday with all the different things that could be wrong with her but I kept telling myself that this just means they don't know what's wrong yet.  They are going to do tests on her today so hopefully we will know what we're facing by the end of today.

She couldn't have picked a worse time to be ill as it seems there was just one  vet on duty yesterday and they'd had lots of emergencies.

Sorry to hear she is still unwell Cheryl.  I read this thread when I got back last night but as there had been no updates I assumed she was sorted.  I suppose the list of things that cause an upset is endless but certainly the one I have most experience of is simply eating something foul.  How is she today, have you seem any improvement since the fluids ?

Last update was yesterday evening. The vet wasn't happy as she was passing blood in the diarrhoea.  She mentioned it could be kidney problems but I thought she would pass blood through urine if it was kidneys and would this cause blood in vomit?  She also mentioned a tumour but I was gobsmacked at that suggestion because it has come on so suddenly. She also mentioned it could be an ulcer.

Vet said they would do an endoscopy today to see if it's an ulcer.

I don't know what to think.  I keep coming back to the vision of seeing her munching on something in the park the day before and thinking was that just a huge coincidence?  Needless to say we are all feeling very very low and miss her terribly.

Just glad that the vets are going to be better staffed today

I would think the staff numbers will be back to normal today.  I suppose all these possibilites are very scarey but on the other hand it shows they are keeping an open mind and, with exploring all possibles, the cause is more likely to be found and treated all the sooner without the danger of fixating on the wrong one.  I hope they find something more definate soon though as it is obviously an agonising time for you.

Thanks.  Trying to think positively and you're right in that they are not ruling anything out until they have more to go on.  Just waiting by the phone is torture.

Paris is home.  She's got some medicine and an eating routine for the next few days.  First thing she did when she got home was bloody poo but vets said this is to be expected and not to worry.

Will keep an eye on her and will take her straight back if she starts to be unwell in herself which is definitely not the case at the moment.  She  barely stopped wagging her tail so far.

I'm really glad she's home, but know how worried you must still be. I hope it something she's eaten that will eventually pass through :)

She's in and out of the garden at the moment barking at the birds so all is well so far.  When I phoned to tell them about the red poo the receptionist referred to the problem as Gastroenteritis. I don't think they really know what was wrong and I still think it had something to do with what I saw her chomping on in the park  even though I don't know what it was my guess is it was something really rotten and revolting.

We were all thinking the worst but didn't voice our fears to each other until today.

Thanks for the good wishes. :)

So glad she is home, Cheryl :) She does sound to be comfortable and she will now be stress free at home so it would seem the best place for a recouperation.

Thanks. :)

Still finding black "slugs" around the garden but "slugs" are starting to take on a more familiar shape as time goes on.  She's on 3 different medicines and one in particular is causing her to have the most deadliest wind   Thank goodness the weather is good and the patio doors are open all day or else I think we might have all keeled over by now  :D  She's enjoying her 3 small meals per day and is up and running about normally although I've kept her home today and will start lead walking tomorrow.  I am terrified she will either try and eat something inappropriate or deposit something on a pavement which will be impossible to pick up.

She's got a very bright green bandage on her leg to cover the wound left by the drip as it was bleeding quite a bit apparently.  I was going to take it off today but son thinks it looks like a cool sweat band so will leave it for the moment and take it off tomorrow.

Thanks for the GAT but I've been hooked up to little Spanish Red the past few evenings :D

so sorry I am late finding the thread, just went through the same with my lab, blood coming out of both ends and masses of it too, very scary, it was enteritis, 7 injections at the emergency vets (always at midnight) and a course of antibiotics and some anti sick pills and she was fine, hope everything is well there too:)
