I always get fed up when they change the dates of Easter every year but found out it is something to do with the moon, okay.........Jesus was crucified on Good Friday...........Sunday which is Palm sunday he rode through the town on a donkey and they layed Palms down in front of him..............Monday he rose from the dead........ So why do they celebrate it this way, surely the right way should be Palm sunday first, then good Friday then Easter Monday?????

ok, if palm sunday was LAST sunday, good friday yesterday, when he was crucified, and next Monday when he rises, why do we have easter on the sunday in between? what's that for then?

I thought the story goes that he rose on what would be Easter Sunday.  The reason we have the Bank Holiday Monday would be that you can't have a Bank Holiday on a weekend and Easter Sunday would be classed as a holiday ;)

Incidentally, Easter is one of the Christian holidays that still go along with the pagan tradition of following the lunar calendar and, as such, the date moves every year :)

Also, talking of holidays, the catholic schools round here broke up a week later than the other schools, they didn't break up till last Thursday, all the others had been off all week. Still get two weeks though, just different times. Wonder why?

Not sure if it's the same in England etc but here (N. Ireland)  all schools have the same alloted number of days holidays to take.  Catholic schools are usually closed on 'holy' days that other non-cathlic schools are not.  Holiday periods (Christmas/Easter etc) are therefore usually a little shorter than for other schools to compensate.  Hope that makes sense  :)

In Scotland if Easter is very late or very early we don't get the holiday at all. Monday is a bank holiday here but not a public holiday (ie the banks are shut but everything else is open!.) This year Easter fell right in the middle of the spring holidays so schools are off but although they usually get one of the days (Good Friday I think) they don't necessarily get both.

He first rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, and was celebrated - and palms were strewn in his path - this we celebrate as Palm Sunday.   On the Thursday (Maundy Thursday) , he was taken by the High Priest's men, and taken to Pontius Pilate, who sentanced him to be crucified, He was crucified the next day (Good Friday) - the THIRD day he rose from the dead - Easter Sunday.

The week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday is known as Holy Week.    The bank holiday is secular.

Hope that helps.

Oh - and its called Easter because it also incorporates a pagan festival for spring (that's why we have easter bunnies & eggs :)  )

Yup.  They didn't even change the name much as the Pagan festival is called Ostara.  It's celebrated on the Vernal Equinox :)
