Walking through the little Copse that I own, both dogs bounding around in hot pursuit of Bunnies...
Quite surreal but the trees and bushes start to move (like something out of 'Lost') I couldnt see but could hear the crashing approach me..
and *Boing!* out leapt a Deer, not in a panic but quite serenely bounding....closely followed *Boing!* by Storm and *boing!* his little shadow Sienna!

It took a second to register! OH and I both looked at each other and said "was that a deer???" ()
OH has lived here for all his 35years and never seen Deer in this neck of the woods!

I called the dogs back.... and Single minded Siberian...*Drum roll*.......came first call!!!!
Very proud of him!!! :D its only taken a year, and I'd never tempt providence and say we've got 100% recall but its been consistent in that time and Im very happy :)

Poor wuluf  he was rewarded with being taken straight home :( (I did give him a big bone and half a liver cake tho') as we then had to go track down the deer and release it, as the wood I own was once a Pheasant rearing pen so its all enclosed in wire fencing (Hence the sibe being 'off lead' ;) )

a part of me is a little dissapointed...we could have had 'Veni-burgers' on the Barbie tonight!!!! ;) :P

WoooHoooo  Well done Storm :D  I'd say that justifies a HUGE brag, I certainly wouldn't be able to call mine off  a deer - and I've tried

I'd have more chance of the deer responding  than I would my dog :D :D

Cause for a large brag I would say :)

It must be the time of year for deer. I have taken to riding my horse at 6.30-7am every other morning because its fits in with my work pattern and I rode him Wed morn at 7am round this wood. He hesitated as we turned a corner and when I looked at where he was looking I saw 2 deers playing. They didnt see me at first but then as soon as they spotted us they jumped straight into the woods! This is near a busy town and a railway line! I was shocked and over whelmed all at the same time - and my horse was as good as gold (which is totally unusual!!) :D

Yeah!!! so very proud of Storm and his excellent dog trainer! :-D I know just how you feel; thank goodness for dog whistles. Milo was going to have venison for breakfast but stopped the chase and came back to me after a whistle. It's hard to have happy recalls when your dog is about to eat bambi!

Well done Liv! You've done wonderful things for Storm and he's a lucky pup for finding his way into your home and your heart. think the little redhead learned anything :)

Way to go HG and Storm

Truly a well justified brag indeed!  I can't even call one of mine off a vaguely intersting patch of grass  never mind a deer (or anything else chaseable)

brag away! We have a family of deer in the wood behind where we live, and i reguarly see them when i'm out first thing, as do the dogs. As soon as they see them, they're off, and theres no chance of them coming back until they've had enough chasing. The benefit it that they're wrecked when they come haring back! Its the same if the grouse are out. Teka stumbles across them and make's them fly off, and Bu belts after them, with Teka in hot pursuit. The closest Bu's ever got was a dead one , although Teka has caught a live mouse once-it didn't last long-i'm sure she thought it was a squeaky toy.... Poor thing.....

Ooh I love to see a deer! If my herd saw one, I've no doubt they would run away screaming their heads off (you should of heard the noise when they encountered a hedgehog 4 feet away!) :D :D :D

Well done Storm! And of course Liv (dog trainer - extraordinaire)

xxxxx :)

Well done Storm - hope you enjoyed your bone!

Well done you two hairy wulufs  :D :D

We had a lovely day as we went to the Thame show and the girls behaved impeciabley (sp):cool:

They did meet and and greet with so many dogs and it was only at the end as we were going out that Moose disgraced herself as she got very excited meeting a super black Flatie boy and she let out a great big woof ! :D :D She never ever woofs normally ;)

Oh yes about deers we have a mummy monkjack (sp) deer with her baby who we see in a fields just up the road from us  So lovely to see but you have to be so quiet otherwise they get soooo spooked and dart off :(

Excellent, HG :) :) Well done :) I had a heart stopping moment the other day. We were having an evening stroll around our Norfolk garden which has no fencing between us and miles of open fields (there is a ditch :D ). Suddenly a deer ran across the next field - fortunately Tara didn't see it - how, I don't know :D :D :D She would have been off if she had :D :D We are desparately trying to get the boundary cleared of dross so that we can get a fence put in - but it's taking a while :D :D I don't have any faith in Tara coming - but maybe she would ........

I did manage to call my oldest Elkhound when she was a couple of years old off a bunny that suddenly got up on the path ahead of us.  I just got the command out in time before the brain and muscles got into gear.

I'd never count on it though.

My Dads wife didn't have as much luck with the Wood Pigeon she caught while staying with them.  She played keep away until she had eaten all the good bits.
