Does anyone know what is required to import a dog into the Uk.

A current Pet Passport ;-)

I kinda knew that but do they have to be a certain age because of the rabies vaccine etc and is quarantine involved?

Quarantine is only involved if the dog doesn't have a Pet Passport. As I understand it, a puppy has a rabies vaccination at 3 months of age, and a blood test taken a month afterwards. If that shows the required levels of antibodies, the dog can come into the country without quarantine six months later. So the youngest age a dog can come in under the Pet Passport scheme is 10 months.

There is more information on the Defra website.

Didn't someone post about some changes that would shorten the period, might have been Brainless.  Can't remember if it was a proposal or a definate change in the pipeline though.

Animals only have to wait 21 days from their rabies vaccination to travel between mainland EU countries.

To have a valid PP the dog will have to be at least 10 months ol

Rabies jab after chipping at 13 weeks(youngest age for the vax), titre test after 28 days(not a calendar month BTW)then 6 calendar months after the positive titre test the dog has a valid PP

Can the pup not travel into under 3 months before vaccination. I have done it the other way where we sent a 12 week old pup to Belgium without vaccination.

The UK is rabies-free, which is why pups can travel freely to most other countries. Importation is different, and a valid Pet Passport is necessary. Read the information on the Defra website.

They also need to have had a positive blood titre test at least 6 months pror to coming in, and have had tick and tapeworm treatment less than 48 but more than 24 hours before coming into UK.

All dogs have to have a Pet Passport to travel between EU countries now, but the entry requireemnts vary, ours being the only oe requiring a 6 month waiting period after a postive blood titre test.
