just wondering if any CDers live in Guernsey? I have never been there but it looks very nice. I expect it's an expensive place to live? Also believe you don't pay tax or NI so wondering how it would work if you moved back here after a few years. Is it bilingual and is it the island where cars are restricted? I'm sounding really stupid reading this back but thought rather than looking it up on google I'd see if their is anyone out there with first hand knowledge!

LOL............
Yes I live here. We do pay tax and social insurance too!
There is a French emphasis, road names etc, and a dying local language 'Guernsey French'. So English mainly spoken.
One of the smaller Isalands, Sark, is car free, Guernsey with a population of 60,000+ has as many cars!
Any questions happily answered, it is a good place.

Do you have a limiting immigration policy or can any British Tom, Dick or Harry roll up?

there used to be VERY strict immigration laws if you were not"local" then you had to have so many thousand unearned incom per year........housing is split into Local and Open market properties and if you are local but buy an open market house [ it used to be] you can never revert back to buying local....and obviously imigrants cannot buy on the "local"market" very expensive properties too
i could rent the same flat as my daughters for a third of the price here!

All welcome :-), however to buy a property you can only buy on what is called the 'open market', we have a local market strictly for locals, with the average 2 up 2 down style place with NO parking costing about £290,000 you can imagine what the 'open market' prices can be.
Jersey, I believe, ask to see your bank balance before they will sell to you!
