Topic Dog Boards / Health / Westie jaw problem
- By JaneG [gb] Date 29.03.07 13:58 UTC
I've just had my neighbour at the door asking for a lift to the vets later to collect her young westie which is in the vets having xrays. The vet has said she has a heriditary problem with her lower jaw, which is growing too much? From the way my neighbour described it it's not simply being undershot but a condition which can stop them eating. This little bitch is to go to the vet school to have bits shaved off her jaw and will be on medication for life apparently. As I haven't actually spoken to the vet, and my neighbour doesn't know much about it I'd like to research the condition for her - but she can't remember what the vet called it. Anyone recognise the symptoms and can help with a name?

How very kind.  Thank you. :D

Vets usually call it lion jaw to owners because they couldn't be expected to remember craniomandibular osteopathy when they are already worried about their dog. :(
