I know that legally this is what dogs are classified as but----
Local paper today has ad in 'pets' section...
By order of Trustee in Bankruptcy  'For Sale - Labrador Dogs of varying Ages and Colours'...payment must be made by chq with card or bankers draft.
Must feel like selling off the kids.....

This is awful :( they must have gone into the house and seized them, what an awful shock, the owners must be totally devistated. This has made me feel sick.

Hi Yvonne, it was in the East Anglian which is mainly Suffolk but the phone was Nfk so don't know how wide they were advertising, I wonder how (IF) they vetted any buyers!!!

I suspect the short answer is NO!  Many years ago, a friends estranged husband was about to be bancrupted and she distributed her breeding stock among friends as she she knew her beloved dogs could be siezed. I willingly homed one with my family and had eight happy years with her. It is disgusting that in modern times it is still legal to sieze dogs in this way.

As far as I know the Inland Revenue do not seize animals because they then have to pay for their keep etc, would have thought other agencies would adopt the same view so wondering if this is the owner selling the dogs as no longer able to afford to keep them rather than the animals having been seized for re-sale.

My previous post was wrong  That used to be the case but not now it would seem - animals can be seized as per this link

This is the relevant para "A bankrupt's pets will not usually have a realisable value but where they are valuable, the official receiver should sell them. Such a sale may be to a relative or friend of the bankrupt, provided the official receiver is satisfied that he has obtained the market value of the pet. "

With pedigree pets it refers to a section 31.6.47

So not necessarily a puppy farm but just some poor devil who happened to have a kennel of dogs perhaps for showing, perhaps for working, who knows but it is very sad.

I am on the case and will see if I can help get suitable homes for them through Rescue if they will let me :)

That is disgusting, I don't know how these people can sleep in their beds at night. Poor dogs:mad:

If anyone is still interested they just had a bit on local tv news as a follow up to a bit I missed yesterday, apparently the dogs belong to a breeder who is finishing as she has gone bust. they gave a phone no for people to make appt to go and see dogs -and hopefully to be sorted out as ok or not to buy one.

Poor things, they are being treated like commodities, pray god that the puppy farmers don't hear of this and think they can make an easy buck by buying ready to breed stock  I hope also that when they are sold that no paperwork such as registration certificates are given with them. What an awful shame
